You have to keep the ribs the same. otherwise you will eat belts. I have been doing this and other fixes since 1992
I can not speak to other than an 88. Disconnect all but the wires. just drop it down thru the gap where the tierod is in this video. I rolled mine up onto the oil change ramps which left more clearance.
Acdelco sucks. many defective returns.
Luckily you swapped to a manual, this is significantly harder on automatics.
I kept having parts store alternators fail, so I stopped buying them and started rebuilding them myself. What did I find on the first one I cracked open? Loose parts. That was in a fresh "remanufactured" unit from the green store.
thanks man – great content will check my 'heater resistor box' in a couple weeks when i pull my 87GT out of the garage.
I'm going to be replacing my alternator before spring too, mine is making scraping sounds, and last fall it wasn't quite working like it should. I'll be upgrading to the '88 cs130 alternator, it's a better, more reliable unit.
Nice video again Kyle, love it. Hey I might have a question about music attribution to you. Will post it in the FB chat.
This exact same thing happened to my Fiero, maybe it's a common problem.
