New $100 Project Car: 1991 Pontiac Firebird Rescue (Ep.1)

New $100 Project Car: 1991 Pontiac Firebird Rescue (Ep.1)

Time for the start of a new project car series, this time covering a 1991 Pontiac Firebird Coupe with a 305 small block Chevy engine and a 700R4 transmission. My neighbor needed to get rid of it but didn’t want to send it to the scrapyard, so he offered it to me for $100 and I gladly accepted. It has quite a few miles and has been sitting for a few years, so there is a lot of work to be done on this project!

Dates of filming: July 8th, 2018 (Buying)
July 12th-13th, 2018 (Oil Change, Washing, etc.)

3.5 liter engine "i hope this will be the most fuel efficient car i own". Damn americans and their cheap gas prices. Here in europe (Poland) i own 1.5 diesel engine 105hp to not go bankrupt in a month.

I've got too many projects. One of them is a '91 V6 Camaro that I bought for $500 not running.
Someday that 4.8 LS I have sitting around will make its way in it…

Yeah, I'm jealous. I'd basically just drive yours as is and fix whatever pops up.

Kristjen Štjuprić says:

i had a 1989 Firebird Formula with the 350 with Tuned Port Injection (TPI) and the 700R4 that I had to replace when I rebuilt the engine (it had some mods including a big cam, ported heads, shift kit, etc. because the previous owners just dogged the hell out of it racing it and screwed the engine badly) as it was my first car of my very own since i had been driving my father's 1991 GMC Sonoma with the V6 4.3L up until that time. I rebuilt the engine and replaced the transmission with a pretty solid T5 Pro that had been strengthened pretty well and I then managed to finish the engine and put it back in. I had it tuned because the car was running so freaking rich because the ECU was jacked up from the previous owner… The exhaust system was pretty much rusted out but i put in headers and a downpipe and that was good enough for Louisiana as we don't have emissions laws (or at least back in 2003 we didn't lol… things may have changed since then since I don't live in the state any longer).

anyhow, the car was a blast and i loved it until my ex-wife opened the door into traffic and got the whole side of my car torn off which broke my heart… however, i later purchased a fairly junky (on the exterior that is) 1990 Chevy Camaro RS that my friend had purchased to put his heavily modded 305 with Throttle Body Injection (TBI) and matched built T5 transmission in after he had wrecked the car it was previously in (1992 Chevy Camaro RS) but since he had just purchased a 1999 Mustang Cobra he needed to get rid of it and I was happy to have another 3rd Gen GM car and I drove that one for quite a while until moving for my job way out west up in the mountains where I really needed something with four wheel drive for my family… I am currently in the process of looking for a Foxbody Mustang or an SN95 Mustang as a project car to put in either a Terminator 4 valve or a Coyote (also 4 valve obviously lol) since I've again moved for work and I'm no longer up at nearly 9500ft but instead at only 5600ft lol… So, I don't need 4wd or AWD for that matter as I've actually been making due with a FWD car that I inherited and have given my wife the 4WD Tacoma for safety reasons since she has to drive the kids around… Sorry for the long post, I'm a bit long-winded lol… Have a great day friends!
