How to change calipers on a vehicle. This clip was recorded 3 months ago. Sorry I lost footage of most the re-assembly. Just follow the steps in reverse.

@IKEEICHOLTZ Sometimes the calipers get worn down or rusty and begin to
stick, which can cause the car to remain partially braked even when you’re
not holding down the pedal.

TheRobEcho says:

@Damn1721 I have a 2005 Grand Am and im changing the front pads and i cant
get the damn calipers off!! I removed the two bolts in the back of caliper
and when i try to remove caliper it jiggles and wiggles and seems loose but
something is holding it in there i have tried sticking a screwdriver and
pry bar under caliper and tapped with hammer and the damn thing still wont
come off – I have done many brak4e changes and this is out of the ordinary
is there something im missing – HELP PLEASE!!!!

Johnnysshop says:

@IKEEICHOLTZ Yeah, replace the pads for sure if you are replacing the
rotors. The only reason I didn’t replace the pads here is because I
literally just replaced them.

Richard Eicholtz says:

Thanks for posting another helpful video. But I have some questions. Under
what circumstances would the calipers need to be replaced? Is it just when
that brake line busted or are there other situations that would call for
them to be changed? Lastly, how often should the rotors and pads to be
changed? Thanks again.

Johnnysshop says:

@Damn1721 Hmm.. Shouldn’t be anything else holding them. Tug on them pretty
well. It could be a locked caliper but not likely.

Adam Jacob says:

Hey johnny, when i put reverse and start going back a squeaking sound
starts i checked the breaks there was nothing wrong with’em do you think
there’s a problem with the rotors? BTW Great videos!!!

Johnnysshop says:

Yeah, should have but didn’t feel like messing with it. They are cheap.

Richard Eicholtz says:

@Johnnysshop Awesome. Thank you very much for everything. Keep posting!

Johnnysshop says:

@Damn1721 No, should just be the 2 screws. Does it feel loose but you just
can’t wiggle them off?

Johnnysshop says:

@TheRobEcho If you have the bolts out there is also little metal sleeves
that are inside of the rubber boots where the bolts came out of. Sometimes
they come out with the bolts. They could be partially in keeping them from
coming off.

diabolicalajyo says:

ok i did mine but now it doesnt seem to work… i did it exactly the way
you showed and only one side of the brakes is working…

Johnnysshop says:

Did you grease the pins?

Richard Eicholtz says:

@Johnnysshop Thanks for replying and the info. Funny you mention the shimmy
when applying brakes because my Equinox is doing that now. Last year I
replaced the pads on it and just knew I couldn’t burned through them this
quickly. I am going to replace the rotors but should I consider replacing
the pads as well? Thanks again. This is great information.

Johnnysshop says:

@OmarRosa11 Yeah, pretty much

Johnnysshop says:

@IKEEICHOLTZ Calipers don’t need replaced often, I did so because the
fittings were broken off and it was only a few bucks more to get the
calipers for this car. If the pistons are leaking, I usually just get new
ones depending on the price. You can also rebuild them but often it’s just
as cheap to replace. Rotors and pads just depend on wear. Driving styles,
conditions, etc all play a role. If you get some shimmy when you put on the
brakes, your rotors are probably warped and need replacing.

GQflydude says:

easy out that busted nipple!

David Rosado says:

Is it really that easy??

Damn1721 says:

hey Johnny, nice video. i have a 2004 grand am gt and i was changing my
brakes. i did the back ones in no time but when i got to the front it seems
like something was keeping me from getting the caliper off to change the
brake. so my question is, is there something im missing to take off other
then the two screws

03grandgtramair says:

dont 4 get brake fluid on brake pads is very bad will cause them to
deteriorate (not sayin u did but it can happen if ur not careful)

Damn1721 says:

@Johnnysshop yes its loose but just wont pull off. it looks like theres a
pin holding it on or it looks like i need to bleed the brakes because
something in the back of the caliper wont let go of the rotor

Johnnysshop says:

@ABC5060 Thanks! Could be just the type of pads (some pads just squeek) or
it could need some brake greese on the moving parts (not the pads, rotors,
drums).
