If you build more than one 455 .030 over, a funnel style ring compressor is clutch. Expensive, but worth it. Restricted pushrods will help oil control. Whose cam thrust setup did you use?
Re rocker arm clearance, I really don't know. I've not seen a combination that got close to binding. Your way of checking seems to be the best solution I can come up with.

What thermostat and temp are you running? I have an 83 with a 455 and having overheating issues
