On the other end of the spectrum, will "they" start regulating technicians, and require specific certifications required to work on specific vehicles? Will techs be required to log so many hours of "continuing education" courses, or a minimum number of repairs to maintain proficiency?

The AM/FM dashboard radio in that '83 is the most complicated electronic device on board. The voltage regulator on the fender was mostly mechanical.
John Deere lost and paid a 99 million dollar class action lawsuit to reimburse farmers and must provide owners and independent shops access to diagnostic software and tools etc….
So precedent is set against this.

If it weren't for warranty work & recalls, my truck would NEVER go to the dealer. If i cant take it to my local service shop, I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER NEW TRUCK! And, until everyone of us sticks together, they will force their will on us.
John Deere just lost a major case about this. They are now required to provide repair info, software, and testing access to all owners.
Get this I have a 14 F250 and my local dealer will not work on it because it has more than 100k. So image a 2027 and then after 100k they will not work on it.
The more they screw us, the more we need to screw them. EVERY CHANCE WE GET. I’m not going to stop working on my own vehicle. This country should’ve went VIOLENT over what happened with their scamdemic and so many other things that happened.
Dealers should sub out all the repairs to shops of owners choice like you and others we trust to do the job right. It would be like a body shop repair. Just saying we buy a house today and if you don’t pay taxes they can take it so yeah what do we really own.

Well let's put it this way you know rain me and Ray I never heard of South Main Auto where the guy people come in and they can't the dealer only throws Parts at the problem and not tries to go and find things electrically or there's shorts or broken wires or corrosion dealership does not spend time to look for that so they're going to throw all those parts of the car and not fix the problem or Independence if they're good and they're good with electrical or good with problems they can fix the problem
If this passes the auto parts stores will go out of business.

This is actually a huge issue we should take very seriously. There’s two bills in the house, HR1566 is the one we want to pass. HR7389 is the bill the auto industry threw in hoping they pass it as a “compromise”. I think they’ll pass 1566 but still call or email your state reps demanding they do. 7389 is still bad and passing it, or both failing, would be bad for everyone.
Whether either passes or not, start watching out for dealers slipping language in sales contracts that you agree to things you shouldn’t. They’ll argue you signed and agreed.

I drove a 6.0 for 10 years and with the help of the 6.0 king, Diesel Tec Ron (may his soul rest in peace) I worked on it myself and it never let me down. I sold it with 600k on the clock.
I now have a 6.7 and with the help of the 6.7 king, ARod, I'm working on it myself and it been awesome.
