My 09 Nissan Murano won't get out of 2nd gear. Could that be a speed sensor or is it definitely a transmission problem?

andy resodikromo says:

. I have a 2007 Fielder 1.8s. Recently I traveled abroad with the car (almost 1800km) on my way back about 200Km from my place, suddenly the car lost power and started slipping. I continued driving slowly as it could not go beyond 2000 revs, if it went above it was just the engine roaring and the car was still at the same speed. Finally it could not go up one of the hills and I had no choice but to tow it home.

I then removed the gearbox and after checking I noted that the Forward Clutches and Steel Plates were severely damaged, and also the Forward Piston Seal was also damaged.

I ordered those items from New Zealand as that was the only supplier I could find online. I replaced those parts and the filter too and filled it with original Toyota CVT-TC Fluid.

Now the problem is there is a delay in engaging from P to R and D specially when its hot. And when testing the vehicle at a certain point the vehicle is juddering/slipping and can not take off. I have to put it back in P, switch it off and then start again then it moves. But also whilst moving it judders at times. Also I noted once when I stopped on junction while the vehicle was in D and brake fully pressed it sounded like the gear has engaged again. As i was going up a small hill at about 60km/h I also saw the rev meter keep going up and down as though its changing gears, until I accelerated more and it went normal.

I was advised by one of the member of Pakwheels to clean the valve body which I did and also opened the transmission again and changed some O-ring seals but the problem is still there.
Please help and advise……. I will appreciate

Artkidtek says:

Bought an 05 Murano back in 2013 with about 70k miles on it. the transmission has recently gone bad at 130k miles. Mechanic says it unrepairable. They're ordering a brand new transmission from Nissan and it cost 3195.
The symptoms I had were: the car shook violently when driving at low speeds. The car jumped when shifting between drive and reverse. And when I drive at higher speeds the shaking goes away but the noise turned into a buzz

Jason Mangal says:

what would you say is the cause of cvt failure? design flaw in engineering, bad parts, complicated mechanicals not proven yet?

Marc see says:

Hi all, looking for some opinions on CVT noise – high pitched, whining
noise after 30min driving or so. The car was inveloved in rear end
accident – quite strong one. I have stopped on the lights and then car
hit me from the back at around 40km/h… also i was on the full break as
I just stopped – the car was pushed about 1 meter in front. since then
the high pitched, whining noise started. Now the insurance company
questions this and suggesting wear and tear… is there any thing
connecting and disconnecting when the car is stopped and can this
mechanism be damaged by heavy impact (rattle like) in the accident?
thanks m

Racist car dealerships in Los Angeles only hire Mexicans. After taking Nissan Sentra car to Nissan in Universal City for Warranty engine work, Nissan keeps your car for 6 weeks! Wanted to keep your car for 7 weeks!</p>

Air Conditioner worked and radio worked. Got your car out of the shop and neither worked! Nissan makes you pay $550 for a air conditioner part! When asked why your radio does not work, Nissan wants to charge you up to $900! Suspicious, you ask to allow the mechanic to show you your radio. Mechanic opens up the radio compartment and you find out the mechanic unplugged your radio! Mechanic plugged in the radio and it worked! Beware!!!
