Transmission wouldn’t shift into drive, a common problem on Nissan Xterra and Frontier. A screw comes lose allowing a small piece of spring steel to become misaligned and jam up the shifter. Easy fix with just a screwdriver, took about 10 minutes total.

Thank you for posting this.
Hey there; car having a similar-ish issue. 2013 Nissan XTerra. Transmission seems to run just fine, but when shifting out of park / reverse / neutral and into drive, it goes into drive — loosely. Any touch will slip it forward into neutral again, and it can be pulled or held back in Drive, but won’t go past that to the lowest gears, nor reliably hold there. I took it to PB and all they could come up with is transmission fluids. Don’t think they even lifted up my console to look like I asked them to, lol. Think this is the problem?
Thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to make this video! Really thought I was in trouble today when I went to go to the gym and couldn't shift into drive, but was so happy to learn that all I needed was youtube and a phillips head! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
My issue seems to be with actually engaging the park into drive function, facilitated by the shift lock solenoid, I believe. I just bought one, so I'm hoping it does that trick, but if not, I'll check this aspect out
Thanks so much for the help! Just bought a used 07 frontier and I was freaking out when it wouldn't shift all suddenly!! Thank goodness i found this video cause now i fixed it and works perfectly!
Does this work if it will go into drive but not reverse on a pathfinder?
None of this helps me because my shifter is in park and I can't get the council cover up
Temperature out here I cannot pull it off because my shift lover isn't drive
I am stuck in park so I cannot remove my console cover
I just used your knowledge 10 minutes. Thank you so much for the video.
My xterra is stuck in 1st gear on the dashboard no matter what gear I change the lever to, no crank no start I'm guessing since it thinks it's in 1st, could this be the problem
Mine wont go into drive but i have reverse
Would this be for any 2000 models??
U saved me big time. If I ever meet you I would definitely by u and your family dinner.
Worked like a charm. Didn't have to call AAA. Didn't have to worry about leaving my Xterra overnight for repair. Thank you for taking the time to post this video. I've made videos. i know how long they take to make. Thank you. God bless you and yours.
