That’s right kids this is the long awaited Nissan 2.5L timing chain replacement video. Well, part 1 anyway. In this installment we remove the old chain. That’s an easy sentence to type, but it takes almost an hour of video to cover. Just to put things in perspective, the first cut of this video was almost 5 hours long. I managed to pair it down to 1 hr 45min. That was a LOT of editing. I love the finished product though.
And yes I do realize that had I removed the rear engine mount it would have made replacing the PS rack that much easier.

this was a painful watch. Such hard work to do a timing chain service.
looks like a nightmare car to work with.
They sure didnt make it easy eric
Jeesum Crowe Donnie. What in the hells half acre is this?? Who in Gods Green Earth "Designed" this veritable cloisterfek of a contraption??
A top class sh*tshow, kudos to Eric for not charging the guy $4500.
I'm just going to lay under a leaky truck and hug my knees for a few hours.
Stay gold.
Eric the car guy, I can't express to you how helpful this video has been, thank you so much. I've been working on my 2005 nissan for a long time, way too long of a time, changing the blown head (thanks girlfriend for that). What a nightmare! And I'm sure being the auto wizard that you are that you would recommend (like the manufacture does) to change the timing chains and water pump while I'm at it right? I would of been lost if not for your video. I've changed heads before and it's usually a weekend job (for me) even with the right tools! Well as you know so well, not in this case. I tend to think its almost worth taking the d%&n engine out to do it. But just wanted to thank you because I had no idea how extensive and laboring this job really was. I'm just a backyard mechanic and I would of been lost trying to do this job with out your help. I'm just now working on removing that stupid double oil pan and timing chain cover and its been a nightmare. Again, probably would of pushed this car off a cliff if not for your thorough, descriptive and top quality video 'Eric the car guy'. You rock dude!!!! Thank you…..
If i do this i would leave out half of those bolts thinking they are extra and not needed.
Smh im surprised this guy didnt break anything. Must be his first time doing one of these!
OMFG, other videos I watched seemed to skip the procedure of getting to the chain itself & just said oh it's not hard just time consuming. Eric your videos are great, the only problem is,you make it look so easy, cause then again you have a shop & all the proper equipment. So it's great to see the easy way, but not helpful when I go to attempt it w/o any of this fancy gear, pneumatic tools, lift, even a welding torch,I mean, now I'm feeling a lot less optimistic it's a DIY job for me.
Great job once again
Eric thank you very much for all your efforts, I learned a lot
This guys the anthony bourdain of fixing cars
What a nightmare of an engine!
Hey Eric, when I was trying to find the TDC, the only mark I could find was the orange one, no yellow or gold marks, so what can I do to find the TDC without the yellow or gold marks?
Eric , Im having problems with my nissan Altima 2005 , 2.5l . I can not take the bottom pan out from the engine frame. can i leave the bottom chain on or I NEED TO INSTALLED THE NEW ONE.CAN YOU HELP ME. THANKS.
Fuck buying a piece of shit Nissan. Even the new ones are just butt ass ugly inside and out. I'll stick with Subaru.
What I really dislike about timing chains is that they are supposed to last as long as the engine should, instead they fail, and when they do it is so hard to replace them as You are showing here. Very good video and explanation!
