Your transmission will last as long as you keep up on the maintanence, the
manual for my truck says to use 75w-85, I choose to use the 75w-90 to
protect better in the long run.

caveman joe says:

@vaxinius I use different pumps only because I’m lazy, actually as long as
you try to get as much differential gear oil out of the pump as possible
everything should be fine. The only reason the two gear oils are different
is because differential gear oil GL-5 has alot of sulphur in it, and it
eats away at the synchros in the transmission, while the transmission
specific GL-4 has less than half the sulphur

XXX says:

I was just wondering if there is any real difference between the Amsoil
transmission fluid and Redline. I have also heard of synthetic oils being
rated as group 4 and group 5 oils with group 5 oils being the best but I
don’t understand this.

caveman joe says:

I bought that pump off of the amsoil website, they also have pour spouts
available now. You can also follow the link in the description.

Dummy Box says:

is this the same to a Chevy Equinox.?

caveman joe says:

I’ve only used Amsoil, I’ve read some people have success with Redline also
on the frontier forum.

caveman joe says:

@Dirtrider415 These transmissions seem to have this problem, even with
Amsoil when it’s cold outside mine is a little notchy until it warms up.
Which redline did you use? They have two different types now, a 90MT and
the 85MT. Everyone seems to have different results.

UndaSoundZ says:

i used 75w90 on my manual trans 2009 nissan sentra , now the specs says i
got to use 75W80 but my mechanic said im better with the 90 ,, i use the
car for deliveries in the city so i got a lot of shifting to do , till now
i love the new oil but i was wondering if this oil is going to protect the
trans in the long run????

caveman joe says:

@lalypik Not sure, if it’s a manual transmission it may be similar as far
as the drain and fill part, but you would still have to locate the drain
and fill plugs. If it’s an automatic transmission then you might want to
watch some of the videos for automatic transmission services. I recommend
watching as many different ones as possible.

West Coast Alternative Media - W. C. A. M! says:

love my frontier. do you know the fluid specs for the auto?

XXX says:

Thus far I have experienced the same thing.

caveman joe says:

@djgrooveline For the automatic transmission I would use the multi vehicle
transmission fluid. It’s the same stuff I use in my transfer case, you can
check out the video. There’s a good write up on the frontier forum for the
automatic transmission service.

XXX says:

That hand pump is made to fit Amsoil bottles and costs $9.95

HandMadeCustom Woodowork says:

I have used both and redline eliminated the notchy shifting that these
trucks are notorious for amsoil although good did not.

MultiBadson says:

Hello ! joe, I need to know, amsoil that is the only you recomended. or
exist another make with the same API GL-4 specs. for the same transmission
2006, frontier ( SE) 6 speed. I follow, your recommendations. Have been
useful for me. Thanks you are a professional !

Dirtrider415 says:

there is a way to fill the transmission with out a pump. all you need is a
funnel and some vinyl tubing. get a piece long enough and run in through
the top of the engine compartment into the fill hole. then stick the funnel
end into the tube and let gravity do the rest. also, i used redline last
time i did mine and never again. i will try amsoil this time. the redline
never felt right in my transmission. in made shifting feel notchy.

caveman joe says:

Always check the owners manual, or Chilton manual, but according to
Amsoil’s lookup guide, yes it takes a GL-4 gear oil in the manual
transmission, or you may want to try calling the local nissan dealer.

vaxinius says:

is it a big deal to use the same pump to fill up the differential after? i
mean after youve got residual tranny fluid through the pump.

caveman joe says:

@MultiBadson I use Amsoil because I’m a little biased, I’ve been using it
since 2001. Actually, Nissan has a 75w-85 GL-4 for these transmissions,
Redline has a MT-90 GL-4 for manual transmissions and transaxles, and
Stalube has a 85w-90 GL-4 also. So a little shopping around and you’ll find
what you need and are comfortable with, but if you want to check out Amsoil
you can chaeck the link in the description part of the video.

TheMickeysHornet says:

i have a 86 nissan does it take 85w gear oil?

Dirty McCurdy says:

What type of pump did you use to put the oil back in?

XXX says:

Which oil will protect transmission longer and make shifting the smoothest?
Amsoil or Redline for manual transmissions.
