The sings are…it wont turn on the ingine sometimes…u will think its the battery or starter…after u check all that…and its good..just try the cylinder key…remove everything…the 2 screws that hold the switch…grab a flat screw driver put it in the hole and crank it..if it work tunrning the engine on…its ur cylinder the problem..buy a new one.

Autotechviewpoint says:

Depending on what is wrong with the switch, it could be either problem. You need to check for power at the switch to find the problem.

I meant to say. This worked perfectly for my 99 Nissan Altima. Couple other connections not mentioned . But it took about 25-30 minutes to remove the old ignition. Most of that time was trying to unplug the large electrical connection inside the back area. Thanks for the post now to go buy a new ignition and key.i got it quoted between $210.00 – $270.00 Canadian

Yes, you can replace just the switch. I did. Didn’t help my problem, but could help yours. Takes 15 minutes, tops.

I looked up the procedure for both vehicles and the procedures were identical, so I would say – Yes.

is this the same or a 01 maxima cylinder lock

Autotechviewpoint says:

I don’t think so. You can take it out, or just call a locksmith to check it out. There are some pretty up to day locksmiths now that do a lot of work on cars. If you really want to keep your original keys.

Is the switch itself replaceable within the assembly (allowing use of existing keys)? I can tell my switch is going bad.
