So I have a 2008 Nissan Altima and it sort or makes that same sound except it has more of a rattle to it. I was also told I need to buy a catalytic converter bank 1 manifold. Is there someone that lives in Wilmington Delaware or new castle county that could take a look and see if this is the same problem as this 2006 Nissan Altima here???

Richard Martin says:

I wish I knew what spri,g kit you used to mount that donut or gasket.

David Bunch says:

I keep reading horror stories about the 02 Altima 2.5S and catastrophic engine fails with regard to the 1st cat or pre-cat. If the car is running perfectly well @ 80k miles, would a header to pre-cat replacement fend off any problems?

tillayee86 says:

Could you give me the part number for the ring that you installed? I believe this will fix my problem as well.

Ce Yo says:

I also have the same tuype of engine car. it smells exhaust gas inside the car but no fault code yet where do you think the gas is leaking. thanks

sugonmaballs says:

I have the same Altima, just with the 3.5 V6 instead. I don't hear that noise from the exhaust leak that you hear in the video on my car, but it's constantly throwing this code after I've cleared it several times. Do you think it could also just be a faulty oxygen sensor or does it pretty much have to be a bad cat if there's no leak? Thanks for any help and for this nice video!

Hi ya Jim great vid and a good diagnosis 🙂 🙂

Rita Palmer says:

where are you located in nj? I'm in nj too and need an honest mechanic to look at my 01 maxima with the code p0420.

Billy Graham says:

so did it fix it?

Alex Beta says:

Thank you for the information good day

Saab Replay says:

Thanks for the great video man.

Jose Escareno says:

I just changed the ignition coils like a week ago and then I get the code p0420. Do you think if i do what you did can solve my problem?

b57ecv says:

its easy to fix and stop the engine management light coming on, it's because the cat is starting to break up and block the exhaust system causing an over rich mixture thats detected by the downstream landa , one of the best ways to fix the engine light problem is to simplify look down the exhaust or up into the manifold and see if it's blocked and running black over rich, if so smash out the blocked cat with a length of steel bar shoved down or up the exhaust system, will mean taking it apart, but you have to be careful not to damage any landa sensors in the process take them out as well if need be, once done disconnect the vehicle's battery to reset the engine management light that's if you don't have a reset tool, once all put back together the management light shouldn't come on and the vehicle will run properly again as an over rich mixture can cause very poor running, to get it through emissions testing next test go become friends with your local garage and bribe them to use another vehicle to stuff the tester up, everybody dose it here in Britain and if you've got the problem you haven't got much to loose by doing this or it's off to the dealership and loose shed loads of money, and the really funny thing is they run better and use less fuel once the cat is gone.

Joseph Pierick says:

I have a 420 code on my 06 Altima. The shop said the cat was bad. They also mentioned the flex joint was leaking but felt that leak wouldn't throw this code. I had them fix it. Do you think they are correct? Joe

Salvador D Licon says:

That was a good video and way to go on saving the customer money. Not many mechanics like that anymore.

Sir Sweetness says:

I found it Jim!!

My 03 protégé stating running rough and threw a p0300 misfire code and after that a p0421 code came up and light flashed and car had no power, but it came back.Stumped on this.Alsmost like a clogged cat but not?Not sure if the misfire casude the p0421.Trying to figure it out by doing a tune-up.Problem is intermittent though which makes it tough.Any ideas?thanks

liek chiang says:

is it hard to DIY replace the catalytic converter on Suzuki forenza, and do I have to replace the oxygen sensor to all 3 or just 1, thanks for the answer

Tatiana Harris says:

would it be the reason it stalls? evap leak

Tatiana Harris says:

yes it's noisy and I got it scan it said evap leak and catalytic converter….

Tatiana Harris says:

it stalls sometimes and cuts off … it also takes time to pick up and acceleration can you help me with some possible fixs

Tatiana Harris says:

hi I was told I have a exhaust leak and a bad cat… mercury villager can you give me some pointers

Leah Poplin says:

Our 2003 Nissan Altima had similar issues. It wasn't making the noise with acceleration, but it did stop accelerating normally. We thought it may be in fail safe mode. Took it to Advance auto and saw the P0420 and P0732 codes pop up. Im researching to find out more before spending too much money. I enjoyed your video.

Todd T says:

it didn't need that motor mount that you mentioned

eloise leza says:

Sam Daik says:

good work. where is your shop ?

NoneMechanic101 says:

You're good!

Thomas Castro says:

What are the chances p0420 is showing up on a 2010 Honda Accord 3.5L V6 and the problem is a leak? There is a rattling but it seems to be closer related to a suspension/stance issue. (Steering wheel shakes a bit past 60 mph)
