2008 Nissan Rogue Air Conditioning Clutch Replacement – DIY

2008 Nissan Rogue Air Conditioning Clutch Replacement – DIY

The Makita cordless impact driver made removing the AC pulley bolt extremely simple. Here is a link to the driver that I use: https://amzn.to/2U15H3N

The pulley removal tool that I used was very similar to this one (https://amzn.to/2ZIgEe1) but is much older so is not available anymore. It is a terrible, and not fun tool to use but it did get the job done.

In this week’s DIY video, we are replacing the Air Conditioning Compressor Clutch assembly on a 2008 Nissan Rogue. The AC Clutch is one the cheap ebay clutches which fit very well and looked as good as the factory AC clutch. This process will be very similar for a Nissan Altima, Nissan Mirano or any newer four cylinder Nissan car. The entire process takes about 30 minutes to an hour and can be performed at home with any competent DIY mechanic.

Can you post the link the clutch kit?

Also, an impact driver or wrench helps tremendously. I have the cheapest Craftsman driver that your can get at Lowe's but it still made easy work of the 10mm bolt and the three phillips screws.

Just did this on my car and it worked like a charm. Got mine from R & Y AC Compressors. Good price and it got here in like three days. My only tip would be to make sure your wire is out of the way before you start it. The wire (at least on the one I got) is a bit longer than it needs to be and when I started it the serpentine belt almost chewed through the wire.

I just did my 2010 Rogue. Some notes:

Impact wrench made the center bolt easy. I have a Dewalt cordless.
I borrowed the 3 jaw puller kit from Advance Auto. Set it for 2 jaws, used the long ones.
Used a Channellock 927 8-Inch Snap Ring Plier from Home Depot.
Those little phillips head screws were frozen and all started to round. Sprayed a little penetrant and ran out for a Craftsman hand impact driver, 3/8-Inch Set (CMMT14104) from Lowes. It popped the screws free effortlessly. NOTE: The included screwdriver bits were too short to reach into the deep recess in the clutch coil. Had to use a longer screwdriver bit.
Installed a remanufactured clutch from R & Y AC Compressors https://www.rycompressors.com/shop/2010-nissan-rogue-ig490-cl-666253.html
I used a big socket and hammer to tap the new pulley into place.
Getting the belt back on was a pain.
Test the thing while it is still jacked up, in case you need to adjust the shims.
Might as well change the oil since the oil filter is right in front of you

A/C is working again. Thanks for the video.

Hi thanks for this video! I swapped out the Clutch coil and the AC started blowing cold air again however It is intermittently cold. It blows as cold as it should maybe 25% of the time and the rest of the time its kind of just "cool" air (noticeably cooler air then when the original clutch coil wasn't engaging). I checked the system for leaks before changing out the coil so its not that. Could it be that the air gap I left between the outer clutch plate and the pulley face is too large? I think I used the three washers that came with the new clutch and then one original washer for a total of 4 washers. Any ideas? Thanks

Thank you so much!!! Man…I was all worried about the pulley thing but it came off so easy I thought I was home free but then I ended up stripping 2 of the 3 screws removing the magnetic actuator. Ugh! Then I had to get screw extractor bits at Home Depot. What a hassle that was!!! I even had to remove the grill and remove the washer fluid reservoir so I could get a straight shot at the far right screw. But it all worked out in the end. AC blowing ice cold! If you want to give me your paypal address I'll gladly "buy you a beer". You saved me loads of dough my man.
