2007 to 2012 Nissan altima 2.5L catalytic converter replacement – Exhaust manifold DIY w/Voice over

2010 altima 2.5L came in with a Check engine light on and DTC P0420 catalytic efficiency below threshold bank 1. Very simple to diagnose (see end of video)… Added Voice over.

This video is showing how to Change the Catalytic converter on a 2007 to 2012 Nissan Altima with a 2.5L 4 cylinder.

It is usually Very loud in the shop so there won’t be any vocal direction. Trying things a little differently on this video. If you prefer at least a voice over please leave your comments and suggestions down below.

Hi I have got Nissan Altima 2008 2.5s .. and check engine light came on I put on diagnostic and pull the code and it was p0420 which means catalytic convertor below efficiency… so my question is how do you know what I need to replace ? Upper catalytic convertor(manifold)? Or the down catalytic convertor ? As there is 2 catalytic convertor on those models ? Or o2 upstream or down stream ? All of them cause this code .. and since all parts together expensive I need to do the most common one on those models .. thanks for awesome video

SO precise in the way you give tips and cautionary recommendations! I commend you for this video! Just had a new one placed on our car and now I understand the intricacy of this labor. Bravo! Keep up these instructional videos.

Great Video!

Naked Snake says:

Thanks. I just replaced the main cat, but I didn't notice any difference. I will get the manifold from Pick A Part tomorrow and replace mine.

Do you think any pieces from the pre-cat could have gotten sucked into the engine?

i went from a 1400 wallet sucker to a 300 dollar investment in knowledge for next time… i may have pressed pause 600 times but damnit i only watched the video once… btw im a welder and the reason why you do not weld exhaust manifold cracks or just exhaust is because when you weld the heat that the weld is puts out stirs that carbon dioxide and puts it into the weld its causing porosity( holes, air pockets,…etc.) thats only for old cats not a brand new one… you may not see porosity on surface but its there. carbon dioxide is very corrosive and will eat the weld from the inside out

Great Video. FYI everyone: The Exhaust Manifold from eBay ($118.88) did not fit my heat shield. 2012 Altima.

Bravo! I just used your video to help me replace the cat on my wife's 2010 Nissan Altima. The shop wanted $1300 to do it; I ordered the part for $250 from Amazon, along with about $25 in additional sockets, and did it myself in 4 hours (it would have only taken 2, but the belt gave me trouble working alone).  Thanks a million!

Charlie Burks says:

Your video was resourceful, I have a friend wit a 2008 Altima that need his replaced, he asked me too change it & it lead me to your video, Thanks for sharing your wisdom it's greatly appreciated!!!

Perhaps this customer can replace their own serpentine belt, we use Continental (previously known as Goodyear Gatorback) How many miles on this particular Altima? The clutch pulley on those alternators are a serviceable item at about 70-80 miles. So many of my customers wait until there alternator is completely gone and end up replacing the entire alternator. Our shop subbed out the alternators, changed the clutch pulleys and extended the life of the alternator and saving the customers money. Those who thought we were trying to “make money off of them” would later return and end up paying more because they need a rebuilt/remanufactured alternator. Nissan DOES NOT SELL new alternators, they’re all rebuilt/remanufactured. Same goes for the others, Honda and Toyota.

Uvaldo Rodriguez says:

Huge help! I'll be having to do this to my wife's Altima this weekend, should save me about $1,000 at the shop. Thanks for the informative video

Fred Raiders says:

Where did you order the catalytic converter from? I just got a Pace Setter catalytic converter from partstrain.com and the stud holes on the bottom end where too small for the studs.

I didn"t think you could improve the first video but you sure did with the narration like I said you are the best #1

My catalytic converter on my 2007 Altima 2.5S is fine, but there's a big crack in the exhaust manifold that I've been looking to repair myself, since the dealership said they'd charge me over 1,000 bucks for the manifold replacement. My old mechanic tried to weld the crack but the weld failed 6 months later. I'm assuming that this video gives the same repair process as a cracked exhaust manifold since the manifold is welded to the catalytic converter?
