thanks for the video on 92grand marquis light switch. my problem was tail lights and dash lights not working. I unhooked the battery positive wire, followed your video and problem fixed. except now the battery won’t crank. What could I have done wrong>
this video is enormously helpful, but why is the switch the problem here? I thought the problem would be electrical in nature only. It seems like I could replace the electrical connector but not the switch.
Isn’t this a common problem? The Lighting Control Module (LCM) on these cars is famous for going out.
Relays on the LCM circuit board are the failure point.
You sir, are the man!

Saved us a lot of money and time! thank you!
thanks for this video man.
Can you do a video check engine light on your grand marquis
92 cougar here, same problem :(( replaced switch and alternator and thought i had it but nope!, guess i’m down to the pigtail, it was alittle melted on one side but not bad
i’m bout ready for mine to burn to the ground
you can get the switch for 30 bucks,,but that’s no guarantee that’s what’s wrong.I got 94 Marquis and i wish i’d never got it.There’s ton’s of complaints on internet about wiring and light trouble.
home much that would cost, i am having the same trouble on my 2004 marquis
i done this to my 94,what could be making the wire get burnt?
“While we’re at it… we’ll roll back the odometer…”
I had this problem with my Marquis and this completely helped me last year. Now having problems with my 05 dodge magnum. Headlight switch is wiggly so pretty sure it needs replaced. Headlights go on and off on it as well but if you mess with the switch you can get them to stay on. Where can I find how to replace it like you showed us on this one? Thanks!
i did everything you did in the video by changing the switch and connectors but my tail lights wont work and checked the fuse and it was blown .. so i replaced it and the tail lights still dont work??? if u could help with some advice id appreciate it… thanks
If youre still responding to this video I have a question. My lights went out on me a few weeks ago, i changed out the switch and everything worked fine. I noticed the plastic looked a little melted on the H part of my wiring harness. After a few days my lights started turning off after about 30 minutes of being on and switch turning on and then turning off randomly. Could it be my knob is messed up, or maybe just the wire is overheating? i havent had this issue until i replaced switches.
I was wondering if you could tell me what is wrong with my truck. The dashboard lights keep flickering on and off. It’s getting worse each day. I already bought a new battery and alternator, but it continues to flicker. My truck is a 2000 Chevrolet s-10. Thanks!
lol…..it’s far easier to change a VW/Audi main light switch……it takes 30 seconds !!!!!!
What about a 2004 Grand Marquis? I mean it just goes out. No flickers, just goes out. Funny thing my car is a 2004 with 75k miles on it. I love it though!
1993 Grand Marquis has the same problem. changed my headlight switch, and it worked for awhile, then began flickering again. I didnt change the harness tho, just the switch . Also, my brake and turn signals dont work. Only thing working are my head and tail lights. Could it be my Lighting control module? Does the :LCN control turnsignals, brake lights? dont really want to invest in another new switch only to find that my brake lights still dont work.
After watching your video I was able to do the repair myself, saving me several hundreds of dollars. Thank you so much for putting this out there!
Thanks this helped a lot!!! 🙂
Yes, it is worth checking. I don’t know if I mentioned in the video or not, but a melted connector on the headlight switch is a common cause for vehicle fire on older Fords. But, if you have full coverage auto insurance…
btw, the headlight connector was in stock at NAPA. part number was EC6
Thanks for your help in doing the video. I have an 89 Gr Marquis and is very similar…but yours seemed easy. I must have spent nearly 12hrs doing mine as I couldnt get the connector and harness out from inside the dash….only way was to disassemble the entire dash to get to the connector to do it right. Success afterward. Thanks again for the tips otherwise it would have costed me a great deal for my mechanic to do
I have the same problem on a 67 mustang. The light flicker but its parked. Is it the headlight switch going bad to?
Just what I was looking for. By the way my car is the exact car color and all that you was working on except I have the electronic dash. Hopefully all will be done the same way anyway just a little different switch. I couldn’t figure out how to get the knob off. Thanks a bunch. If we were close I’d have the wife give you a hug.
Check the harness. Compare it to the old one. See if the manufacturer put the right color wire in the wrong position. Also, if there is more than one of any color, they may be reversed.
