Thank you
Spot on Ray really helped out thank you .
Two or four stroke never mind, change lower unit gear oil does not depends on what kind of stroke.
Doesn’t really matter, I used regular wheel bearing grease. Just use it sparingly, it only needs to last a few seconds until the water gets there.
What kind of grease would you suggest using to lube up the impeller housing?
Thanks ,that was helpfull.
Is this a two stoke. I not is the replacement process the same? And do u change lower unit oil with a two stoke?
Perfect help. Just bought the boat from father-in-law and he didn’t want to do the work. I’m grateful. Looking forward to more
Great video. Lots of help.
thanks , great info..
Dittto. I have a 98 Force/Mercury. Same deal ….Ray do you have any carb rebuild Vids?
Thanks Ray,
from Olympia Wash.
DRay, Can you use that 40 HP Force Engine and do a video showing how you would clean the carburetors after sitting for a while? I have a 50 HP Force and it has been sitting for a couple of years! I want to get the carbs as clean as possible without having to tear them down. Thanks! ccs
Very useful, thanks!
Very informative D-Ray. Is the replacement the same for a 90HP Force?
Thanks D-Ray, I am just about to go out and do a service on my 60 hp Mercury 4 stroke – it appears your info. will work with mine as well. Thanks again.
Thanks D-Ray
I am here in the Philippines MALAPASCUA and no technican around to replace the impeller of my MARINER 40.
Thanks to your video i could do it myself. Great help.
Mike
Well done… Thanks.
Thanks man! Great videos!
Excellent video good explanations and close ups without allot of unnecessary BS. Good to the point, wish more videos were like this. I have a 92 Force 150 carburetor, 5 cylinder, is also a Mercury lower unit with the Force Power Head? Today the alarm came on with a lot of steam and poor water flow. Water coming out is very, very hot to the touch. Tomorrow I think I will check the impellar. Thank you again for a excellant to the point 2 part video.
Thanks big D. Straightforward and simple. Do you know much about ignition issues on mid 90’s merc. 2 strokes?
Very Informative video.
Hell, just took my boat to the shop for a new impeller/pump. Looks like I could have saved some money and do it myself on the cheap. You make it look easy.
Keep up the good videos!
Suppose there are major pieces missing from the old impeller. How do you ensure that they are not still in the engine’s cooling passages? How would you flush them out?
thanks for video followed this step by step on my motor and saved me £300 chandlers bill and motor now runs great. champion thankyou
Thanks for watchin’! Been motorcycle riding up there years ago.
I would run a compression test first. If you have relatively low or uneven compression between cylinders, that can cause noise. If your outboard has a moveable stator plate attached to the throttle, make sure its hooked up and moves with the throttle. If that’s okay, I would try a good decarbonizer like sea foam, you may have excessive carbon buildup causing pre-ignition or detonation. Otherwise if all else fails you could possibly have crankshaft bearing issues. Thanks for watching
Cool very informative! My mercury 2 stroke rattles something bad how do I service it?
DRay, what a nice way to explain to us the process…thank you!, I haven’t found the linkage yet but I assume it is the trim possition, but I’m sure I will accomplish the task…just one final question here…I started looking for this after I noticed very few water flow and someone told me that in this model it is pretty common to have the tubbing that takes the water out of the system gets clogged pretty easily…how can I clean an flush it just after the new impeller is installed?
Thanks for the video. Helped alot. Thanks again, Kevin (Mt. Magazine, AR)
you did a great job of explaning thanks a lot for helping a nother redneck
Thanks for the video.
Do you know where i can find a tutorial on how to hook up the controls for an outboard similar to that one? I have an old bass bomber (1977) without a motor or controls and i might restore it this summer and i dont know whats involved in hooking up the motor. Im planning in 40-80hp.
Thanks
