I am student at Colorado College and 1,000 miles from home, when all of a sudden my tube assembly failed me, and left me stranded in the school parking lot! I did what any man would do when they need mechanical advice and went on YouTube. Needless to say this video got me going again. Many thanks friend for your great video you saved me a lot of money.

Cober TV says:

Man you’re great person! So much helpful videos! Great job!

1aauto says:

Removing the intake manifold would possibly give you some more room to move around but it is not necessary.

neutrodyne says:

Would removing the intake manifold make this job any easier?

psylockegurl says:

Yeah, I have an ’01. So the connecting tubes were rusted and broke when replacing the assembly. I live in Orlando, FL, so I’m just doing a bypass. I don’t need heat. I would have to pay $900 to replace the core at a shop since I no longer have the area to do work on my car. My apartment complex would throw a fit if I ripped the dash out in the parking lot. Thankfully everything else is fine, but I was very confused until I realized it was the heater core. Thank you for your reply!

1aauto says:

It sounds like the heater core may have a hose missing off of it which would make sense why coolant came out of it. The heater core will have two tubes coming out of the firewall, they should both have radiator hoses connected on them. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

This was done today on my taurus. I had a cracked joint at the V split and decided to buy a new OEM part instead of having it welded. Once it was put on the car started up but a tube on the firewall that had nothing connected to it to begin with is now spewing all the coolant from the reservoir. What in the world is that about? I’m totally boggled and have no clue what to do, any help at all would be appreciated!!!

1aauto says:

It may be a little on the high side.

equallywrong says:

Do you think $280 was too much to have paid for this type of repair?

You’re welcome, have a great day!

Loshatube says:

I am trying to replace that on 1999 Taurus 3.0 DOHC…don’t think its possible
Taking manifold off right at the moment

jose GONZALEZ says:

Definitely going to try it! I believe I can handle this after watching this video! Now we need a video from 1aauto that shows how to replace the rear spark plugs on the taurus 2000’s series! Anybody know where there might be a video available for the spark plug replacement??

achrystie says:

I just did this job. Thanks for the video. Notes:
1) On my 2002 Taurus, the nuts were 11mm not 10mm as show in the video.
2) I saw no reason to get under the vehicle. I just sliced the hoses off at the firewall then used some long bent needle nose pliers to remove the hose clamps and cut the rest off.
3) As someone else stated, align the hose clamps upward on install of the new one and you won’t be required to get under the vehicle.
4) Use a universal on the sockets, it makes it a lot easier.

Brian Wallace says:

Your video inspired me to tackle this job when my assembly failed. Your instructions were spot on. Just a few notes, before installing the replacement part, I aligned all clamps upward such that the can be reached topside next time. The rain gutter was tricky at first, but after releasing it from the stud, it literally pulls straight down out of a press fit…similar to assembling a vacuum cleaner hose.

Thanks again.

1aauto says:

De nada. Tiene un gran día!

SAUCEVAL63 says:

GRACIAS POR TUS VIDEOS , SON MUY UTILES PARA EL MECANICO DE FIN DE SEMANA . BUEN TRABAJO.

brock stallworth says:

MAN THAT RAIN GUTTER…..

brock stallworth says:

ahhhh man i have a 2000 ford taurus se OHV and it was noooo issue, i just replaced it……very easy, the only issue was the rain gutter 🙁 didnt know how it went but i think i figured it out, but lost 2 of the screws that went to the firewall 🙁 but still in place and not moving, THANKS A MILLION

1aauto says:

It was hard to get the video camera into position, to show how this is removed. We do describe what needs to be done in the video.

raininggy says:

very helpful video. I feel to be confident to do it myself. only one question I like to ask, that is, could you please give me more details on how to remove the rain gutter or drain funnel, because in the video, this step was not shot. Thanks a lot!

Germanico Sorgi says:

if its got the 3.0 DOHC 24valve then yeah you will. oh and replacing an alt, egr, wires or spark plugs is no fun on that engine/car either if your no mechanic. trust me i have a 99 merc sable and it sucked. they wanted over $400 for just an alt job at the shops and over $400 for the wires and plugs just cause it had the 3.0 DOCH 24valve engine. if it had the 3.0 12valve it was like 30% + cheaper to work on.

Germanico Sorgi says:

Im in the process of doing this to my GF’s 2002 3.0v 12valve Ford Taurus with 76,000 miles and the only thing holding me back is I lost (or someone borrowed without saying s**t) a pair of pliers I had to do this job so i cant get to the bottom clamps yet but so far it isn’t to bad of a job and I am not no mechanic (more of a P.C. repair guy). Once i get my GF’s car done my brothers 2004 Tuarus with 182,000 needs the same part. God I hope I dont have the same issue with my 99 merc sable 3.0 DOHC

Thank you for checking out our auto repair video.

jet79637 says:

Hey good video, even for the fact that it shows every step so I can judge how long it will take for myself. I will be replacing this hose and piping this weekend due to the same rusted area is leaking on a family members Taurus.

MrMrmurf says:

Hello~
For the 2000 mercury sable,in my case ….. you WILL need to remove the intake monifold to get to the heater hose clamps, I did this job this morning and there was no way of removing the hose clamps from the bottom, the hose clamps were not top or bottom,I had to use the a special tool from snap on to get the clamps off because they were sideways…the removal of the intake was no big deal, but if you don’t have the special hose clamp tool…your’e screwed….

MrMrmurf says:

hi, I have a 2000 mercury sable with the DOHC motor, do i have to remove the intake manifold to replace this hose?

Nicholas Daw says:

if that was the factory hose assembly, then the clamps are pointed down so you have to be under the car to squeeze them open.

leadingedgedj says:

Thank you for sharing this info with us. I could not figure out how to do this replacement. After seeing how you did it I went out and quickly removed mine. You Rock.

pokeysdadfrank says:

this truely helped replacing the assembly. just one thing i will never know and that is why the hell did ford hava all the clamps facing down. what a true screwup.

kelbo031890 says:

this was super helpful i just needed to remove the rain gutter i was trying to do this with out removing that thing

1aauto says:

Was a while ago that I did this but from what I remember there is more room to get at things from the bottom.

JamesBStudios says:

Hello.
Why do you need to go under the car as long as you position your clamps facing upwards? Thanks.

johnston500r says:

Really helpful video!! thanks!
