How to DIY Winterize 2 Stroke Outboard Engine | Mercury Force 120HP

How to DIY Winterizing a 2 Stroke Outboard Engine | Mercury Force 120HP. We take you through the steps on how we prepare our bowrider Starcraft Boat with Mercury Ourboard engine for storage over the winter.

We install engine muffs and attach to a garden hose. Then with water running, we start the mercury outboard and let it warm up. With the engine running we spray fogging oil into each carburetter until the engine stalls.

As an added measure we remove each spark plug and shoot a small burst of fogging oil into each cylinder and replace the spark plugs.

Lastly drain the lower unit gear oil and refill

I'm going to be inheriting a starcraft boat with a force 125 engine. I believe the motor is a 1989 model. Do you believe I will be able to get any parts I need for this thing?

I'm new into boating and this is my first year with my boat. I hope you don't mind if I ask you some basic questions.
What is the point of fogging the engine? I live where it doesn't snow, do I still need to fog the motor?
Thanks in advance.

Nice Video.! Thanks. I see that you have hydrofoil on Force 120. Does it help? I have almost the same boat set up…. and was thinking to install hydrofoil to improve plane…

Mike Albertini says:

If lower unit oil looks good, thick no water. Could you just keep the old in and change in spring?

Yul Iverson says:

Thanks, it’s hard to hear you. Video could have been done without the elevator music.

Darryl Switzer says:

Do you do anything like anti-freeze for the water intake?

Your EPA approved oil catch pan made me laugh. Do you think you really need to remove the plugs and spray more oil in each cylinder after you stalled the engine with the fogging oil? I am not saying you don't need to I was just wondering. Thinking of buying a boat this weekend and I haven't been around boats sense I was young. I grew up with boats but got kind of burned out on them, the old lady never really was interested but I am getting the bug again. Anyway thanks for sharing your video.

Ok Now that you've done that it's time to get the sled trailer out of storage. I see snow on the ground ! My trailer is in the barn with the cows ! lol .
