that is not unheard of, there are many shady mechanics out there. I’ve worked with a couple of ripoff artist. get a second opinion from someone who will look at it for free and see what they think, if they suspect foul play, sue em. But it also could have been a simple mistake…. so just get it looked at by a reliable 3rd party and go from there.
I just had my starter replaced and now there is some weird noise that the mechanic said is from the exhaust. Do you think he could have unscrewed something or done something wrong with the exhaust system because it wasn’t making that noise before he worked on the car.
Okay cool I just finished trying to get it out with liquid wrench but that didn’t cut it. Ill try the torch with the PB blaster tomorrow ill let you know how it goes, thanks a lot.
use a mirror and look and see if it’s on the body of the starter. there’s one one the bottom and one at the top if it’s stuck, use PB blaster, WD won’t cut it. I had to use a box end wrench and a lot of time, a ratcheting wrench would have been ideal. If it still won’t come loose, heat it up with a small torch and then spray the PB on it, but be careful cause it will boil and spray on you. the heat will pull the PB into the threads and it should come right out. let me know if that doesn’t work.
I’ve been trying to replace a starter on that same car for 2 days now, I’m having trouble removing the top bolt on the starter, but I’m not quite sure if I’m unscrewing the correct bolt. Is there anyway you can tell me which one it is, just to make sure I’m unscrewing the right one. I’ve applied WD-40 but it’s still not coming out, don’t know what else to do
thanks … my car is the same as a ’95 ford tortus .. sometimes i have to look up the ford in order to get any info.
i have searched for a third bolt … none .. ill try the mallet tomorrow .. i hesitated doing that … thanks again.
I’m not familiar with that specific car, but there might be a third bolt. if you’ve got all of them out, tap it with a rubber mallet and see if it’s loose. just don’t let it fall on your head. I can’t find much info on that car, so just double check for more bolts or screws. some are a tight fit, so that may be the issue or maybe the teeth are stuck in the engaged position.
very good and helpful video … i have removed both upper and lower bolts .. the starter wont budge .. i mean it still seems like its bolted up … cant figuar it out ?
my car is a 1995 mercury sable.
any ideas ?
If I do any more vids like that, I’ll try and make them less shakey and better put together. it’s really hard to film and work on it. for the starter, they’re pretty similar on most cars so hopefully it still helps.
Very helpful my starter went out on my Mercury Sable 02 with I was able to check and change my own starter I feel good about since I’m a woman thanks a lot
Just returned home from troubleshooting a 2002 Taurus, and it looks like it may need a starter replace. Your video helped a lot. Appreciate your efforts.

sweet, that’s cool. I did the same trick on a trailer hitch from the 70’s.
I finally got the starter out and replaced it with the PB blaster and the torch, thanks a ton for the advice.

for future reference it will help if you say where the part is located and what kind of tools might be needed
