my manual shows how to take it apart and check the tensioner..it doesn’t say that a new one must be installed…? thanks for the information, I appreciate it
i have a 03 passat w8 leaking oil through timing chain tensioner evwryone says the engine has to be pulles to access this 40 dollar part, over 20 shop houra to pull engine, any suggestions?
I would get a Mercedes certified mechanic to give their professional opinion as to whether the accident could cause the tensioner to seize..if you have a written letter from a certified Benz. mechanic the insurance company can’t refuse the claim
I find it odd that the tensioner could seize from any accident, unless the motor got whacked, and that would be a pretty hard impact…possible the coolant loss overheated the engine and the timing chain jumped the sprockets…but that would be odd odd as well… anything is possible though..at least the other driver is at fault and will have to repair your car
the chain tensioner ended up quieting the noise a bit..but not completely…could be a worn chain guide rail..the cooler the engine the less noise ..could be too oil is thinning at temp..or tensioner near gone..your supercharger should be cooled by oil and intake air…i don’t think there are coolant passages in the supercharger…the supercharger compresses the air which then becomes hot from the compression…it then passes through the intercooler to remove some of that excess heat…
So the rattling noise is from this particular part? I have a 2000 c230 and, it is making that same noise…at first i presumed it was the fan clutch area, it was a that dieseling noise you speak of to. The supercharger, is it just aircooled or how does that work?
HI GUYS ANY IDEA FOR TIMING MARK C280 MERCEDEZ 2006

Mercedes states to insert only new tensioners’ if chain hubs it wil damage the engine badly.,it is a common problem with these engine’s.
Sorry I have no suggestions..I have never worked on a w8 VW,and have no experience with them

you have to ask to change the tensioner seals
