The footage I used in this video was the best I had and between all the videos I believe there is very valuable information for anyone that has never done this job before.
As always thanks for watching and I hope you see you in the next one 🙂

what is the car on this particular video? C180/C200/C250? I'm driving a C250 with a timing chain replaced at 150k kms but amazed to see that this car has done 313k kms!

great sharing video

Hi Gerard, thanks for your video unfortunately my w204 had chain issue 2days ago without code.this was confirmed by aa. Any advice pls. Thanks.

Bavarian Motors - BAHRAIN says:

hi, do u advice to change the timing chain even for lower mileage? 100.000km ?

nwo says:

Is There anything specific that needs to be done after torquing down the timing chain tensioner to apply tension to the chain or do I just torque it down to 40 Nm and let it apply tension on its own?

phil pots says:

Thanks for your time with the videos ,I'm assuming the 1.8 is a noninterference motor as you can wind the crank over and feed the chain around or am I missing something ?? thanks Gerard

Ross Birch says:

Do the valves hit when you bar the crank over or have the lifters been taken off? Also, can the tensioner be taken out for checking on its own? I have a c180 compressor 2003 but not sure if its Variable valves. chain jumped apparently and a garage put it back in place but reported it as very lose. Dose the tensioner have oil pressure as well as a spring behind it? The car belongs to an old boy and its not cost effective to get a garage to deal with it. So I may have a go. I am a diesel fitter so within my capability but Im just thinking blind at the moment. If I take it apart ill be committed.

David Washbourne says:

Hi Gerard. Did you replace the chain guides at the same time or was that not necessary. Cheers David

stefcep says:

I've read elsewhere that its not possible to get the exhaust side timing mark exactly lined up even after doing this repair, on the kompressor versions of the M271 anyway. The example in this video is the turob version with a different timing chain. Were you able to get all timing marks exactly lined up?

Serog Sin says:

Does the timing need to be reset/relearned? Can it be done by the scan tool or does it need MB?

Pat Ryan says:

this videos very well done Could have done whit this last year Regarding the kit for the chain they come in different sizes The 1st one I bought From Amazon Was 50 pound The fittings were 4 or 5 mm And did not fit my chain Then ordered another one online Seeley £275 This one had all different sizes and included the 3 mm this one fitted my Mercedes which was a 1.8 CGI 2012 Hope this helps

Duane Donaldson says:

I would bet that a motorcycle chain tool will do this same job at a much cheaper price?? Why did you not use the vise grips and the extra chain coming out as a weight laying out over the fender going down to the ground, with a fender cover of course. I can see somebody allowing some slack, the chain falls out of time on the crank gear and the entire job is buggered. No live scan data or scope video of the VVT in action, hmmmmm
