Mercedes Oil Drip Pan | PCV Replacement DIY

Mercedes Oil Drip Pan | PCV Replacement DIY

Replace this part or your air intake manifold will die. I’m not kidding! This part wears thin with a groove line that allows oil to slip past after which it ends up in the air intake manifold and causes damage if not rectified quickly.

Keith – thanks for the video. Very helpful. Had some leakage bottom of rebreather cover so decided to replace it and the centrifuge. No issues taking everything apart but the new centrifuge would not seat onto the camshaft no matter how much I fiddled with it. I ended up putting the old centrifuge back on (it seats easily) and buttoning everything back up. Any trick to get the new centrifuge to properly seat on the camshaft?

Normand Guenette says:

Is this the same on OM642 engine in a W164 ?

Easy as pie on a 2011, w212 e350. Four e10 (or 8mm box end) gets the top piece off. One reverse threaded bolt using 1/4” deep well socket gets the oil catch can off. Mine was not very tight. Thanks Keith!! No more oil on the exhaust.

Apache Cai says:

I didn't get a new bolt for the oil separator, just reused the old one? Is it gonna be a problem in the long run? Thx.

nathan Richardson says:

Thank u for doing this

fmtime says:

w164 has 2 ventilation paths. It seems that you changed oil drip pan on the right side. Does the left side oil separator need to be changed as well? the part number is A2720160134

Adrian Mccann says:

I have a 08 e320cdi with the om642 engine. I have recently changed the rebreather. The one I got is an updated version, where the breather and the drip pan come all in one. Mercedes thinking behind that must be that they reckon that the breather and drip pan wear out at the same time. The nice thing about this is, when I fitted the the breather, I had fitted the new drip pan too.

Andrew Grachev says:

Hey is the centrifuge piece that tightens down left hand thread. Is it suppose to be just right enough to spin it freely or should it not have any movement to it???? Please help, any advice would be appreciated.

Tom Bauer says:

Why not just clean this part and reuse as there is nothing to wear out on this piece as I can see.

prietodel4 says:

how often do you change it

Hi I have an SLK230 R170, will this be a usable fix with my engine? By the way great vid!

+iRepair Autos Keith I own a ML350- W164 and there is oil leaking on to the exhaust from both the left and the right side. My model has a metal oil re breather port cover. Please can you advise if there are any other differences and if I should do anything differently ?

Gareth Lewisjones says:

Would a faulty pvc course a black puff when you put your foot down? I've 270 CDI

Apache Cai says:

At what mileage interval should I be replacing these two parts? Thanks.

rohanmax14 says:

Did 2011 E350 had this issue?

Yerzhan Tanatov says:

hi, how does work this oil drip pan? i want to know, is there some holes inside that metallic cyllinder except bolt?last year i've changed the pcv valve only, yesterday i have checked and there is any oil. So i m wondering, maybe some mess filled that hole inside that metallic cylinder and no ventilation is happening any more.

Martin Lang says:

So, if I got this right this "rebreather" must try to take out the oil from the Crankcase air (like a PCV system).
If this rebreather etc is replaced is there really a need for an oil catch can?
Is this the m112 engine or the later ?is it m272? Cheers

Kevin Bullard says:

Love it…thx

Peteg says:

Amazing video. Thank you Sooo much. I had to replace my intake manifold last year (2006 ML350) and replaced ventilation valve last summer. After watching this video, I'm going to replace ventilation valve again as well as the drip pan. Thanks again!!!

yusuihang says:

Is this part used on a W210 M112 (1999 E320) engine? I don't see it at the end of the breather hoses.

Colin Aglae says:

Nice video. Many thanx. Good & informative DIY replacement of the PCV/Oil drip Pan !!

Fareed Ahmed says:

What mileage or age and what type of engine/ models??

Jammell Brown says:

Can u replace coil with any cool t or it's a specific cool for each

Jammell Brown says:

Hello it's jammell can u tell me the how the engine could are numbered on a v8 engine in what order are they if u are standing in front of car

J. Badinter says:

The PCV valve and its diaphragm is the culprit, not the internal part in metal rubbing against the soft plastic diaphragm. Replacing the PCV valve it enough.
But thank you for the reminder of reverse thread.

Feyi Joseph says:

Thanks so much for this video!! Question should I buy the oil separator as well? Or will the oil drip pan and the pcv be ok? Installing a new manifold and just taking precautions so it doesn't occur again.. thanks bro
