They changed the trim in about 1989-1990. Older Mercedes will have blackish trim, in 1990 they switched to the more gold trim on the 190e, to appeal to a younger, more flashy buyer. Never thought I’d call out fake news in the old merc community.
That vinyl wrap idea sounds great. I just had some sectional repainting done on my E230. It was only after that I realized I could also have had the trim done to just make everything look cleaner, so now I will be trying out your suggestion.

If u want to replace the faded black trims get them now before Mercedes stop making them. I am not able to get them for my W124 500E rear screen
