How to replace the Mercedes-Benz Interior Door Handle C-Class W204 GLK X204

The interior door handle of Mercedes C-Class W204 and GLK X204 are prone to breaking. There is no need to replace the entire trim as commonly suggested by the Mercedes-Benz dealer. Save time and money by just replacing the handle.

feedback.

Step 1: ( @ ) I had no torx30 screw in my car. It was some sort of plastic clip that was hard to get off. i ended up breaking it and had to superglue it. That was a pain. you should have an actual video showing how to do this.

Step 3: cutters didn't work. used a utility knife and a dremel. still took lots of time. you should have an actual video showing how to do this.

Step 5: You should explain how to get cable clip off the broken handle. it was such a pain trying to get that off without breaking it. you should have an actual video showing how to do this.

It worked. Took me 7 hours and lots of swearing. Not sure if it was worth it. this helped but would have been more useful showing actual video of the hard steps i stated above.

thanks.

y1 Yehonatan says:

Don't be naive because the parts in the Mercedes are much stronger than shown in the video.

Minute 0:49 You can see that you dismantled the square clip before the video.

Anyone unfamiliar with it will easily break the clip.

I would not recommend watching your videos

⚠️⚠️Here’s a new tip ⚠️⚠️
1-remove the panel 5 min work
2-get a zip strap less than 10 cent
3- warp it around the broken handle and the door release cable twice, and zip it tight.
4- re assemble the panel
5- have a good day

Total work duration not longer than 10 min
It won’t open as smooth as the original but it will open indeed! As removing the bolts is a big time, and you need 3-4 hours to do so

Just finished fixing broken handle on MB sedan 4 door C250 2012 with $35 handle which I bought on Amazon from iEWorks. This vIdeo was really helpful (5 thumbs-up) to identify the location of all the plastic caps that needed to be cut-off and sanded off. That took some time. and effort. Removing the pin with screw didn't work and took and hour of drilling out and cutting off old handle. New handle and pin worked great, reattached all door parts with screws provided with replacement handle kit. . Took about 4 hours, but I would not pay for the new panel out of principal. To pay 600+ for a new panel to replace $5 plastic handle ( why is plastic anyway, on 35K car.) Ridiculous. Best of Luck to everyone and thanks for video.

What size screws do u need to put back in?

Don Thomasino says:

The end of the saga.  I took the door to a fabricator who fixed it better than new for $300.  Don't buy the door panel.

Please help,I am looking at all these comments, But I need help,My door handle broke on the driver side c 250 2013,The mb,is charging 800,plus to replace it.3 Months ago,I paid over 4,ooo.oo to do a complete change of everything under the hood, early the engine light came own, lord have mery that was over thousands.I purchase this car brand new, paid cashfir this vehicle. My brother who knows a little about cars took me to this dealer, who told me he can repair it ,if I got the part,so what kit do I need to order.Desparate,I am tried of spending money, when there are short cuts

Charles Jones says:

Get a professional to do this job! I followed that video step by step. THOSE PLASTIC CAPS, very time consuming. Then the VIDEO IS FOR THE PASSENGER DOOR. The DRIVER SIDE IS DIFFERENT. I spent 7 hours on this only to DESTROY THE PIN AND THE PIN WHOLE WITH THAT SCREW. My time was worth more than just getting a professional to do it. DON’T FOLLOW THIS VIDEO.

Kenneth Pounds says:

wow, what. a complex nightmare, thx mercedes, first handle to ever break in 40 years of driving

John Fiebke says:

The 2013 C300 does NOT look like this on the inside, and the pin is covered.

Danilo M. Barros says:

How to unbolt the M10 Caps?

Michael Mulvey says:

Thank you so much for this video and the door handle I bought from you on Amazon! You saved me over $1,200 at my Mercedes dealership. The pin and caps were tricky, but I got the job done!

John Sullivan says:

Question about the pin – does the split end of the pin go in first?

Don Thomasino says:

I am a decent mechanic and I spent nearly 7 hours on this. You cannot cut the plastic welds odd with cutters. I used a dremel. Then I spent over 2 hours trying to remove the handle pin. It never came out and I f’d up the door trying to drill it out. Hey folks, this is why The dealer puts in a new panel. My times worth more than this effort. Shot my whole Saturday. Mad at MB for crap handle.

Adam Parkes says:

Just fixed my in-laws car with this kit. It was the driver's side door, which had an extra wire. The instructions in this video are pretty accurate, but it would have been more helpful with narration and starting from scratch on a car with the door still on, to give you an idea of what taking things off if really like. There was also no t10 screw under the door molding, as said in the video. It was a plastic clip, that I had to break. As others have said, I don't think snips would have worked easily to get the melted plastic tabs off; so I used my Dremel with a grinder head to get them off. By far the most difficult part was getting the pin out! I had to drill a small hole into the side of the pin and the wall, then leave the small bit in the hole to prevent the pin from moving. I was then able to set a screw in the pin and pull it out. The kit itself seems overly expensive for what you get. The only thing that you're really paying for is the door handle itself (which does not match the color exactly from the original). I would have liked to see them include the clip that attached to the handle and the cable that you have to take from the broken handle, as I had to use pliers to break the plastic around the clip to free it. Not the most fun fix I've had to do, but it did save a ton of money, as the deal wanted to just buy a whole new door panel + labor. I wouldn't recommend this to someone that is new to working on cars.

Marcus Scott says:

Great video. Thanks. To only critique I have. I used a rotary tool to cut the plastic tabs and a small drill bit to drill a hole in the door pin handle then. I screwed in a small screw into the hole to pull the pin out.

Kim Rose says:

Do I have to take the door off to fix it cause I don’t want to take it off.
