you were to nice, just grab hold of the ash tray and the whole ashtray and backing will come out with it, and stick your hands behind the radio and pull it out, done, wink wink

Brown is always “Ground” in German cars. Power is red or black and illumination is normally gray plus power antenna wire which could be blue. But please check with a volt meter or test light to make sure.
