Very helpful to me in this instance because i thought the engine light was
due to a bad cam sensor, of i replaced not long back , you have just given
me a breather here , thank you for posting.

You got a can of carb cleaner to last a year. Damn I use hat stuff like
water. Great video though!

Zellachan1 says:

Hi, informative video. Could you tell me the likely issue with just the
code P2187? Its on an 2004 Mazda 6i. thanks

Michael Kim says:

Have you looked into the engine bay from beneath the car? Is the PCV valve
and hose more easily accessible that way?

AskTheCarExperts says:

Thanks for the video. I am a BMW mechanic but my wife drives the MPV. Had
the lean code only on bank 2 but checked the PCV hose and sure enough the
hose is cracking. Thanks for taking the time to post this helpful video!

Very helpful video. Readily located this video while searching for
resolution to my mom’s 2005 MPV Check Engine Light. Her MPV has less than
47K miles. An Actron CP9125 OBDII code reader showed P2187 and P2189 codes.
When I felt along the PCV hose, it had a crack in almost exactly the same
location as in KillOByte1’s video. Referring repair to the local Mazda
dealership.

Ron Hurrley says:

Thanks for the great video. It also fixed my problem too. The only issue
that had was that I did not realize that the PCV valve required a 1/2 turn
so I inadvertently pulled out the plastic mount off the block. Hopefully
that I was able to get it reseated so it does not leak. Again thanks for
the great video. Ron

Excellent. Thanks for the pointer!

Ron Hurrley says:

Follow-up… reseating the PCV mount did not hold. As it turns out the PCV
mount is part of the valve cover and can not be purchased separately. I
just bonded the mount back to the valve cover with high temperture epoxy.
If that does not hold I guess I will have to spring for a $200 valve cover
to get a $2 mount. I found that there are some gromets on the market but I
do not know if they would be a suitable replacement.

That is what I call Helpful. People like you makes Youtube worth a while.
Thank you for posting such a good informational video. Excellent Job. A+

Hands4Surgery says:

Hi. Did you experience a weird vibration from the engine/drivetrain when
stopped as indication of this propblem? did the car behave any differently
with the broken hose, on top of throwing out the codes? My 2005 MPV with
72k miles is experiencing a very weird vibration when idling in gear. It is
a low rpm-like vibration. If I shift from N to 3, or 2nd, vibration is
gone. If I shift from 2 or 3 to D vibration returns. Vibration is gone when
driving; present when stopped. Any suggestions?

Kill-O-Byte says:

I’m not an expert but I believe the 6i is a 4 cylinder. If so, it only has
1 bank so you would only get the 1 code. Most likely problem is a vacuum
leak.

cooldudepark says:

A cracking video that has effectively saved me, and no doubt others, quite
a bit of coin. Thank you for taking the time to upload your handiwork.

Kill-O-Byte says:

The engine idled roughly, but I never tried switching through the gears.
The rough idle was caused by a vacuum leak, so I wouldn’t expect the gear
choice (while sitting still) to make a difference.

JM Reily says:

Yea….if you all are having the ignition coil issues with your MPV this is
a good one to watch out for while removing intake manifold to replace rear
coils/plugs. Not quite sure if this was leaking prior to my removal of the
manifold, but it was leaking in the bend of large end. If you haven’t
replaced one or the other, it is a good double up to save some time. There
is a fairly good forum entry on removing manifold, etc. on one of the mazda
sites. google gets you there.

Kill-O-Byte says:

I would think the epoxy would hold, sure hope so. And thanks for posting,
it’s good info.
