In this video I show you how to update your Mazda’s navigation (Maps) system at home for free. Mazda has made it very easy to update the SD card yourself in the comfort of your own home using Mazda Toolbox updater software. I believe Mazda makes updates free for 3 years from date of purchase for the navigation system.

Android Auto is much more convenient. I managed to get my dealer to include it for free in the sale as I knew I'd otherwise get stung by map update prices after the free period.
This is not for free, because after a couple of years, you WILL have to pay for an update.

I'm having trouble even getting the toolbox to get past "insert your navigation SD card"…I have had no prompts for registration or anything of the sort. Any ideas why? (I'm trying to update a 2013 cx-5.) The toolbox is not recognizing the SD card for some reason…

Not Free. Need to pay a small fortune for update. A phone holder is way cheaper and google maps free.
Navigation cards have gotten really expensive (maybe because mazda knows they are not worth it and people won´t renew after the free 3 year plan) my dad just bought a 2022 Mazda 3 and at the dealership they wanted 700 USD for the card!!
You forgot to mention only within the three years of NEW vehicle. I have a 2018 CX-5 and they want what was stated above…..

What can you do if you don't have an SD card slot? I have a 2011 Mazda CX-9 that uses DVD navigation. The Mazda Toolbox updater program is useless because it requires a computer to be connected to the car when you do the SD card update with the toolbox update app.
If you value your money, please don’t update these maps. It’s not worth 84 euros/year for this terrible technology.!Mazda hasn’t improved on their navigation maps. I learned my lesson the hard way.

"for FREE" kinda implies that you and do this at any time and that you are somehow cheating the system.
Mazda currently wants $84.70 for a single year update and $135.75 for 3 years. "MAZDA, I bought your CAR already!!!!"
