That’s a great idea to check for leaks before replacing coolant. By the
way, is he your brother?

Aaron W says:

You lucky son of a B**** lol I only ask because im a small 800 sq foot shop
and work by myself. I worked in a Chevy shop for 10 years and have been
working for myself for almost 3 years. Im always asked if I work on imports
but as I dont have a repair program I turn down lots of work. Thank you for
the reply

D6Spanky says:

i can only comment on the camera situation… We purchased a new one! I
think that you will see a dramatic difference, especially in things close
to the camera! We shall see! 😀

briansmobile1 says:

GM Dex-cool is supposed to be a long term coolant that preserves the
lining/coating in GM water jackets. Never mind the fact it eats ABS plastic
parts. When you use Ethylene Glycol (Green antifreeze) in with it, it just
strips that anti-corosive ABS protecting coating. (the crud in your tank.)

capman911 says:

Did you say you were going to kick the engineer of that plastic part in the
nuts? lol Any way black plastic or ABS is supposed to be used for plumbing
a mobile home here in NC. I don’t know what they use for plumbing in other
states maybe pvc.

briansmobile1 says:

You’re welcome- always great to hear from you. Happy New Year!

briansmobile1 says:

Factory manuals. I used to work for a software development company doing
labeling, QA, and stuff. I have most of them.

Walter's Playground says:

“won’t come, won’t come, and then all of a sudden UGHH, it’s freakin’
everywhere!” THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID! lol couldn’t help but say it…

Ron4936 says:

Gone are the days of the shade tree mechanic 🙂

D6Spanky says:

Welcome!!! happy new year to you, too!

divinecuban says:

THANKS BRIAN EVEN THO I AINT HAVE A MAZDA THANKS FOR YOUR VIDS BRO HAVE YOU
WORKED ON NISSANS 300ZX Z32

briansmobile1 says:

7mil Nitrile

NotARealUTubeAccount says:

Yup, the DuraTec 3.0L

anyheck says:

Howdy Brian and Spanky, Happy New Year to you! You said that the coolant in
there eats up the ABS parts, I’m guessing the green cool-aid you’re using
is ‘conventional’ silicate based inorganic buffered antifreeze, but have
you found that OAT or HOAT based to be better or worse with respect to
that? I switched out from a silicate to an OAT (used car) for the supposed
extended life, and that it’s the factory coolant (Toyota). BTW have you
resolved your camera situation? Thank you!

joel graves says:

great video brian.never have done a new mpv before.after getting hose
clamps off I like too use a cotter key tool too loosen the hoses.its a bit
pointed but not too sharp.run it between the end of the hose and the
fitting….max

briansmobile1 says:

Ha ha! They don’t hate us, they just don’t think about us much at all. They
have space, performance, time, and cost constraints to worry about and they
forget about us.

D4x4Bronc says:

I don’t think osha is involved in automotive. lol

TechnicalLee says:

Ah, I see. Good for you. (Giving charity, not going broke!)

dave1135 says:

Yep, designed failure. It’s made to go out after several years, so the
owner will give up and buy a new one. Happy new year brian.

Walter's Playground says:

So, Mazda uses a lot of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene and anti-freeze
(from the factory) that dissolves ABS… great engineering Mazda… bravo.

sixtyfiveford says:

What type/brand of gloves do you wear?

Walter's Playground says:

man, at 4:13 I got the sudden thought that automotive mechanics is like
heart surgery… the spaces are so tight and the tools required are so
specialized and you have to follow a certain procedure or else…

Bumgardner1911 says:

I kept the jelly on a shop towel and can make a video of it if needed. if
it is permatex somebody used a whole tube on the upper chamber, since the
coolant sensor in the lower end hasn’t flagged no coolant like I think it
would if it got coated. Plus I can kind of see the coolant on that end
unlike the upper. It has me stumped and at a stand still! Lol

kristopherDay says:

Hey Brian, just curious how long you have been working on cars?

briansmobile1 says:

That’s because I power washed the sh!t right out of them. ; ) 130K miles.
They were absolutely filthy before.

CravinMorehead420 says:

Had to replace a water pump and radiator on a Ford Escape.. goodtimes.

Bumgardner1911 says:

Before I forget, no signs of coolant making it into the oil that I can see.
No chocolate milk, and the old skool taste a small dab of oil for sweetness
(Not the smartest idea, fairly crude, but surprisingly effective).

subaru733 says:

motor and trans look vary clean how many miles

D4x4Bronc says:

ford fullsize trucks are good, crown vic “panther” platform is good. Can
say the same for their economy fuel mileage cars.

Rob Heywood says:

Brian, What is your opinion of “Evans – Waterless Coolant”? Saw it on Jay
Leno’s Garage. Thanks, Rob

dmiller9696 says:

Could you show how to put in a rear end locker on a 60s chevy c10 2wd

ReptileGuy28 says:

Great info and have a great New Year Brian !!!!

Mystery207 says:

OMG thanks for the upload I’m getting real sick of these political videos.

briansmobile1 says:

I see that all the time. Dexcool definately eats the ABS plastic
components. It makes them extremely brittle. The intake manifold gaskets
are based out of ABS.

shepd3 says:

Hey, look, since the auto manufacturers have to actually provide some rust
resistance in the body work nowadays, they gotta find SOMETHING to corrode
and fall apart so you have to buy a new vehicle. I’m just amazed they said
“Screw it” to metal parts and instead figured out a way to make plastic
“rust”. 😀

Usernameinvalid16 says:

You do not do that because you will Knock a Pully off balance.

bimmerman3 says:

Is that a ford engine because it said motorcraft on that water pump belt?
Thats stupid engieering with that setup. They dont even bother putting a
tensioner on it.

Bumgardner1911 says:

We almost bought a lumina (64k miles) with the 3.6l until I thought I found
out the seals on the coolant channels through the intake manifold were done
for. To this day I think dex-cool was the culprit. Chevy revised the torque
specs from 60 something up to 78ft-lbs but its still a common issue it
seems. Ever run into that, and what’s your take on it?

ncrdisabled Submarine vet says:

My son had a 2004 jeep liberty and it has a bad light socket for the front
turn signal. I went to NAPA and was told they do not carry it. I checked on
line and can not find it . I heard it was a factory oem item and maybe a
junk yard . Do you know where I can get one since I am way away from dealer
and junk yards.

incapabledub says:

hey brian, you probably already know about this, but my dad got myself and
the rest of his guys a really nice rechargable torch (we do alot of
crankcase work on large diesels) i should do a tool review really. But i
bring this up mainly because it has a UV LED function and its supposed to
be for checking leakage from the dye they put in antifreeze. You ever used
something like this?

TrueBlueEG8 says:

That has got to be fords engine in that mazda???

TechnicalLee says:

Shouldn’t you use a new stretch belt? I thought you could only “stretch”
them once? Also, why no stretch belt tool? The tool hooks onto the edge of
the pulley, lift the belt on it, then turn the engine to guide it on.

MrSlipknot1488 says:

This is just like fords duratec.
