In this video I repair the blown 100amp fusible link on my Mercury 90hp optimax engine.
After taking the boat out and noticing the engine wasn’t charging my batteries I discovered I’d blown the fusible link from the alternator when I accidentally shorted the wires connecting the batteries.
A quick look on google I discovered these link cables are mega expensive from the main dealers, costing over £100 which seemed crazy for a short length of copper wire and a fuse.
After a bit of research I found the exact 100amp mega fuse as what was used by mercury themselves on eBay for around £6 and some copper rivets too. This repair cost me around £10 to sort
If you have an outboard engine with an alternator charging system, there’s a good chance you will have one of these fusible links so hopefully this will help y0u if you’re having issues with low volts and no charging
