I finally FRIED my Lotus T-580 Quad’s ESC! Here’s my Upgrade to V-2.

I was warned when I first got my Lotus T-580 that the speed control would fry. With so much money in lights, RC camera mount, bombdrop servo and RX, I had n…

nightflyyer hello, I also had the problem of FOD, so I bought the new esc’s v3.0 (gren) but FC has version 1.1, and this is not working, you could inform me of are compatible?, thank you and good flights.

By the way: The new models of Lotus T-580 come with a V-3 ESC
18A (again) not 30A like the V-2 and the board is green (with production-date June 2012 on it)
Hope this V-3 will solve the problems of the past – my new T-580 flies very stable + altitude-hold works absolutely perfect

Great Video Dave as always. I have an idea to set blade tracking with the use of a strobe light.
Do you think it could work? I don’t have one, but I bet you do. Would you maybe give it a try and make a video? If anyone can, it would be you.

Here the news regarding the brand new LotusRC ESC v3.0 …
Hmm…. Pasting URLs in the comments does not work :-}
Go to rcgroups.com and search for “T580 v3.0”

Martin Weinecke says:

I’ve start separating my v1.1 ESC for better heat flow but before soldering I was thinking about to buy the new v2.0 ESC and sell the old board(s). So I’ve contacted the shop where I’ve bought my T580 and asked if the v2 ESC’s are compatible to my 1.1 FC board. The answer was yes but they also told me that there will be a v3 ESC board available soon! The new T580 are already equiped with this green colored board. So I’ll wait again. Good luck & fun with your T580! Thanks for your videos! Martin

nice vid… I have a question the foam you use on all the helis and quads what purpose does it give you and the weight of it and whare did you get it?…….THANKS for all your GREAT vids

Alan McCall says:

If the ESC’S are prone to burn out then shouldn’t lotus rc replace them under warranty. If its such an issue i won’t be buying one of these.

Dave, if you ever stopped uploading videos I would really miss you.

Leprechaun79 says:

I absolutely love your videos! Very educational and great attention to detail! You also have a very pleasant voice to listen to.You would be great on the radio!

I like the servo horn mod to depress camera shutter button.

NightFlyyer says:

Thanks Tom. Yep the stock one has NO holes, so I figure this is good as the heat sinks are ample. Ill see how it goes. Maybe I’ll add more holes, as that is where the white lights come out of too. Thanks again for the comments.

NightFlyyer says:

The fan may be a good idea, however, the heat sinks are quite massive, so expect, I can relax on that a while. We need rain bad, so it must be green there. You saw my lawn, and the trees are already shedding leaves, like fall, and its only July. Thanks for the comments.

I was the one who told you that you where “on borrowed time”. sorry it had to happen to you. But let me tell you some more advice. I would advise getting the new Flight controller that was made in conjuction for the V2 ESC’s…. if you dont, you might be noticing it to be more unstable (wobble) than before. reasion for that is becuase the old FC is diled in for the old ESCs (whitch had less power, throttle response, etc) the new v2 programed FC needs v2 ESC. the are not to be interchangable.

Hay Dave, Glad to see you got it upgraded and fixed. How about putting some larger holes in the hood cover for added cooling. Just a thought. Might keep Surfer Girl a little cooler to. Tom

flamingosunlimited says:

I like the quad, but not the surfer girl on top of it. I wish she would have died in the crash. 😀

Kamal Gill says:

that is a nice quad

beverke7 says:

nice job Dave, good to see her surf again 🙂 Would an additional ultralight fan inside help cooling some more ? Oh well, good to see you have warm weather because we had several weeks with lots of rain… But I flew anyway between showers lol

girrrrrrr2 says:

Goin to the car wash…

Chris Wells says:

Well, if it was going to happen, it would be during this heat wave we’ve been experiencing! Glad to see you were able to get it back up and running.
