Lincoln Continental headliner sun visors replacement install removal repair recover issue

Front seats must be push all the way back, lowered, and reclined to lowest setting.

Headrests must be pushed all the way down.

Removal of shift knob will make the removal of headliner a little easier.

Headliner is designed to be removed from vehicle without bending it. Remove it through front passenger door. DO NOT BEND! IF YOU BEND IT, YOU WILL RUIN IT. REMOVE IT STRAIGHT.

If you are recovering moonroof sunshade, you will need a razor blade scraper to remove stubborn foam. You will also need to remove the actual moonroof glass and possibly rusted screws. DO NOT STRIP MOONROOF SCREWS. Remove all rusted moonroof screws and replace them with same type or similar. You will also need to clean the dirty sunshade sliding contact area before installing new sunshade. Otherwise, new sunshade will be dirty. You will also need to realign sunroof glass correctly so that it will seal properly. Tis is also a perfect time to re-lube the sunroof rails if all grease is gone and or dirty.

If you recover sun visors, you will need to actually break them open, carefully. Remove old cloth. Cut new cloth. Seal them back together. I used gorilla glue to reseal my sun visors.

All the items that I purchased for this project were under $110:

144 x 60 headliner kit (which includes 3 bottles of high temp adhesive spray) from yourautotrim.com for $68.95 plus shipping costs

6 piece detail brush set (item #93610) from harbor freight tools for $1.99 or free with a free coupon

Klean Strip Acetone 1 quart from home depot for $7.48

Gorilla Tape 1-7/8 in x 12 yards from home depot for $4.97

Gorilla Glue 2 fl oz. from home depot for $4.97

The following item is what I needed for sunshade. I used a razor blade attached to pliers. But you can use the following:

Razor Blade Scraper (Item #98039) from harbor freight tools for $1.49 ( I wish I wouldve bought this)

Over a year later/two summers later and this headliner still looks new. My location has been experiencing higher than normal temps for most of summer 2018. However, glue has not failed. Dap Weldwood High temp adhesive spray has proven to be great for the job. The hardest part was removing the old headliner cloth from headliner and sunroof sunshade. . Everything else was easy. Including recovering the sun visors and axillary sun visors.
