This is one of those videos you watch put yiur hand over your face and just shake your head in pure disguest at how much your car has dissapointed you.

APDTY says:

The clutch iself is replaceable, you typically need a specialty tool to pull they clutch/pulley assembly off of the compressor, unfortunately this tool can often cost almost the price of a whole compressor, which is why many people replace the whole compressor and clutch at once.

billydunwoody says:

How would I replace just the AC Compressor Clutch?

APDTY says:

AC Leaks can be one of the trickiest things to pinpoint. The cleaner is AC system Flush solvent, you can find it in both aerosol cans or just non-pressurized containers (which require a separate tool to use).

wakawu says:

Got a leak somewhere in my 2000 Crown Vic. Add refrigerant and it holds for a few days then pressure drops off again. Added dye and I don’t see anything seeping out anywhere on the condenser, lines or accumulator. I plan on replacing the o-rings, orifice tube maybe the accumulator. What is the name of that cleaner that you sprayed into the ports and condenser?

APDTY says:

**”would require verification” (I somehow left out a word, haha)

APDTY says:

To me,, my initial thoughts would be that the AC clutch has gone bad and shorted out the AC system. When an AC clutch fails it can make lots of horrible noises. If a clutch fails in a certain way, the clutch coil can become shorted out which will blow the main AC fuse, which “could” in turn then cause the AC control unit to not work. This is a theory though, and would verification by checking your fuses and AC compressor clutch.

Johnathan Miley says:

I have a 1999 Lincoln Town Car and my controls for my air won’t come on in the car. If your inside the car it sounds like you’re running over gravel. When I popped my hood the sound appears to sound like a loose tool and is coming from the AC Compressor. The sound isn’t constant, it comes and goes. Could this possibly be something wrong with the AC Compressor?

scaranogaryj says:

great vid!!! very helpful and informative, im a mechanic and can figure out as I go, but a lil research goes a long way, as in the connections that wouldn’t release…

APDTY says:

That green cap is not part of the AC system, thats actually a test port for the Evaporative Emissions system. If you ever have a diagnotistic trouble code for an “EVAP Leak,” you can pump low pressure smoke into that valve to check for leaks in the EVAP system.

Rich2481 says:

At 13:10 when you are tightening up the hose there is an air valve ( green cap ) on your right, what is that for? I have one on my Isuzu Hombre ( Chevy S10 ) and I never could fill the AC up even though I have been doing AC for thirty years.. My dads town car needs 8 ounces and I dont want to tackle it without knowing what that valve is for.

mrstrongable says:

What’s wrong with the saying if its not broke then don’t fix it or replace it… I’m sorry I just work it refrigeration and just don’t believe in opening a system unless you have to. These refrigerants are toxic for the atmosphere especially.

APDTY says:

The Clutch by itself isn’t a huge price difference between the entire assembly, in this case the owner of the car wanted to go ahead and knock out two birds with one stone. Why leave an original compressor on a car with almost 200k miles, when for a little bit more you can replace it and the clutch.

mrstrongable says:

Wow… Way to replace a whole freakin compressor because the clutch bearing was wore out!!!???

APDTY says:

Most cars have a sticker under the hood that tell how many pounds of refrigerant the system holds, most cans of refrigerant are 0.75 lbs each. So if your car calls for 1.5 lbs, you would add 2 full cans.

7991492 says:

how many cans of refrigerant is need to recharge the a/c?

APDTY says:

That particular ratchet I am using there is a Matco BFR128LFT ratchet, and it’s one of my favorite tools, it has very fine teeth on the ratcheting mechanism which means that you only have to turn the handle a little bit before it “ratchets”

Aych Morgan says:

does anyone know the type of ratchet he’s usingwith the bendable head? it seems to make the screwing and unscrewing very convenient.

APDTY says:

The mechanic must have been reaching up under the dash and manually changing the position of the “Mode Door.” I am not sure exactly how he would do that, but often you can remove the air door actuator and manually turn the flap from one position to another.

xsleef says:

My son just got a 2003 grand marquis and the a/c will not switch from def to regular vent..The lady he got it from said the part was 700 but her mechanic would manually switch it by hand evry spring for free..Do you have any idea how to do this.?

bigbob1122 says:

Do you know if the compressors from the Town Car/Grand Marquis/Crown Vic are year specific? Could a rebuilt compressor from a newer Crown Vic like an ’04 work on an older Crown Vic like a ’95?

rax2099 says:

GREAT
Could you please record the next time you will replace ac compressor/dryer from a 2000-2003 ford taurus with Duratec engine please.
Everyone keeps saying it the worst job ever…

rsavagebob says:

very informative and we will use your instructions this week.
Thank you
Bo

APDTY says:

6.5oz of Oil should be sufficient, The oil gets picked up by the refrigerant and circulated throughout the entire system, so as long as there is enough to go around, you will be fine.

Donnie Bell says:

Ohh yea, also, I read the instructions about the oil already in the compressor..It said there was 1.5 oz of oil already there..I placed about 5 Oz of PAG 46(ICE 32) in the compressor…Was that ok? too much? or too Little?? I have been driving it, no unusual noises or sounds.. I don’t have it charged yet, wanna get it pressure checked and evacuated and vacuumed first to be certain all is good

Donnie Bell says:

I have one more question……I replaced everything the other day…I noticed on the NEW line, that it was just slightly longer than the stock line, This caused a little kink in the high pressure line….Should I be concerned with that? I tried to figure out a way to lessen the Kink in it, but couldn;t do it….

APDTY says:

The flushing,, and vacuum both require specialized equipment, I recommend bringing it to a local automotive shop to let them do those steps for you. I wrote an article that explains many of the questions you have, check it out by going to autopartsdirecttoyou .info

Donnie Bell says:

this was a GREAT video, closest thing to a 1995 Crown Victoria..This video showed me exactly what I needed to know…I am going to completely remove my ENTIRE Ac system and replace it. I need to know how to complete the last steps…The recharging of the system, what to use to flush the system, and how to run a vacuum on the system??? HOW DO I DO THAT??Also, show me exactly how to remove the lines with the quick release tool,I have that, not sure how to use it,lol.GREAT VIDEO

APDTY says:

Yes, they are not difficult, watch our video on replacing the intake manifold on this car, pulling the coil packs is one of the steps.
