Loose side-view mirror, 2009 Lexus IS350

How does one fix this? I’d prefer NOT to pay for a new mirror. The electronics in the mirror seem to work (turn signals, mirror adjustment), just the spring …

Have you fixed it yet? Please let me know if you out anything. Do this
happens to all the is Lexus? I really though some hater did it.

Craig – Let me know what you find out. Same thing happened to my IS350 this
afternoon only on the passenger’s side. Good luck!

Stephanie Ruiz says:

*this is ridiculous if this is such a common problem and there hasn’t been
a recall. I don’t want to pay out the nose either!

Craig Oliver says:

By the way, in the meantime, I velcro’d it. 🙂

0311Trock says:

Smart move on the velcro! FYI I fixed mine yesterday. Payed $15 for a 2-day
subscription to Toyota’s Technical Information System and was able to
figure out how to take the door apart to get at the mirror. Took about an
hour to fix it once I was able to see the drawings.

Jennifer Price says:

Same issue happen to my lexus is250 2009 this weekend. First it was the
driver mirror and the next day the passenger mirror. It’s difficult to
drive if I need to change lanes or park. I’m very disappointed and will be
calling the dealer this morning. Thanks for posting this video

Kim Cranfield says:

Thank you so much for the video. I just paid $800 for a brand new mirror
for the drivers side. 2 days after I had it fixed, my passenger side
started doing the same thing so I thought I would google to see if anyone
else had the same problem. I wish I’d thought to google this $800 ago.
Thanks again.

Craig Oliver says:

I fixed it by totalling the car. 🙁

Craig Oliver says:

I have to get a new part and they have to take the door apart. It’s about
$500 through the dealer. I’m going to try and get it done by a body shop
for $250 if the car wash doesn’t pay for it.

Craig Oliver says:

It happened to my Lexus, dunno about all of them. It got broken in a car
wash I think. It definitely didn’t just “break”.

0311Trock – can you send the diagram to me? I just had the same damn thing
happen to me. Nobody hit it or anything – and my only guess is that the
extreme heat yesterday melted away some plastic thing inside. i don’t want
to pay 500 bucks either

Stephanie Ruiz says:

I had this happen on my passenger side. The dealership ate the cost but now
I am out of warranty and I think the drivers side is about to go. This is
rediculous if the

0311Trock says:

There is supposed to be a clip holding tension on a spring to keep the
mirror in one spot. Needless to say the clip was gone when I opened the
mirror up. I just drilled a hole in the aluminum shaft that the spring does
around and put a pin in it to keep the spring tensioned. Worked like a
charm. Took an hour of my time, a few beers, and $15 for the TIS
subscription. Good luck.

jmanis2cool says:

So I’m guessing this should be a recall item if we’re all having the same
problem within a month. I bet they put timers on things to break at certain
mileages or time lol JFK.
