Sami, as usual, thanks for the helpful guide! I finally got around to buying these and am waiting for a bit warmer weather to install.
I saw some questions in the comments below but didn't see answers so I thought I would share what I was told by BBG customer support:
1) The nuts attached by wire that go inside the frame are meant to go with the flat plate touching the frame (second way you showed) as they are meant to be a sort of 'washer'. 2) Torque seems to be open to interpretation as how tight you think you need it, but 80 ft/lb was stated from them to be 'plenty tight'
Is the front nut fixed? Or welded on some how? Just looking at my prado not sure if I remove the existing bolt if the nut will stay In place. If it falls off ain’t got a clue how to get it back in
Your videos are super helpful. I have similar plans for my GX, but your build is going to help anyone with similar platforms and even unrelated vehicles because you cover so much of the trial-and-error problem solving involved in DIY installs.
Hello man just found your channel and I am watching all of yout DIY video's. I'm not new to the car scene. But what I am new to is the Overlaunding scene. was is the purpose of Recovery points? I'm looking to buy my own GX460. I plan on doing a full build once I get it. The snorkle, skid plates, lift, new tires and rims, new rear and front bumper.
You could have just used the factory welded ring right next to the one you installed. It is 16MM, double welded through the frame. According to Toyota that is what it's for. I bet it is stronger that those 2 bolts on the yellow one. Lots of people like to spend money on the nice bright color ones I guess, looks cooler 🙂
How do you keep the nut plate from spinning while you torque down the bolt? I have one of these nut plate welded on the subframe in my 05-10 Jeep Grand Cherokee for the front sway bar from factory. Over time the weldment failed and the nut plate came apart. Now I can’t torque down the bolt because the nut plate keep spinning while I torque the bolt down.
This was super helpful for me as I installed the Treaty Oak recovery points this morning after painting them yesterday. Thanks! Do you have torque specifications handy? They weren't provided with mine.
Followed the video step by step this morning and installed both with no problem. I ordered the recovery points from BBG4X4 with the link above. Arrived in three days. The video made it simple and the helpful tips about how to access the frame holes and reversing the nut saved much time and head ache. One additional tip: On the passenger side there is a small plastic reservoir that extends down very slightly in the way of the recovery point. This is fine because the plastic gives a little and you can push the recovery point up between the reservoir and the frame.
Great write up and some great tips. I’d check with the manufacturer to make sure the points will meet rating if used with the bolt plate backwards as it may affect torquing. These are 1/4 the price of a pair of the ARB points but they have twice the capacity and have the advantage that you don’t need to use a bridal strap and can be used straight up with a snatch strap a single point if the other is buried or blocked. I need some recovery points and will consider it as it’s a budget friendly option!
Did the inside nuts with the wire come with the purchase (recovery GEAR) or you have to buy extra?
good video!

Thanks again bro for the heads-up on my factory hook tow/tie down point.

Good job!
Watched your video before mounting a set on my 4Runner. What type and size of shackles are you using?
Dude thanks for this. Helped me install mine.

Enjoy watching all your videos, it's always very detailed with the install and informative.

Excelent video! Looks lime the GX460 already has two hook points? Are those any good?
