Replace Height Sensor – Range Rover Sport or LR3 (2005-2009)

▼Parts and Tools Listed Below▼
How to replace Range Rover Sport 2005-2009 height sensor to alleviate “Suspension Fault Normal Height Only” errors. This is a follow up video to my original video on how to diagnose a faulty height sensor. This is a relatively cheap and easy fix for a very common RRS problem. Ideally, both front or rear wheel height sensors would be replaced at the same time for symmetry.

The specific sensor you need will depend on whether you are replacing the front/rear and driver/passenger sensor.

Parts needed:
Replacement height sensors (https://amzn.to/3n0vgho)

Front: RRS HSE and RRS SC are the same, but LR3 is different part.
Rear: RRS HSE, RRS SC, and LR3 height sensors are the same.

Tools required:
13mm socket or wrench (for battery terminals)
T20 torx bit (for height-sensor bracket)

The tool set I use – contains all above tools (https://amzn.to/3q70cj5)

Works with RRS and LR3 MY 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009

So contrary to other videos, this looks straight forward, I did not see or hear anything about height calibration.

Jojo Kimpo says:

I am getting suspension fault message on my Range Rover Sport 2011 and the mid light on the level adjustment button goes off, I switch the car off and on again and everything works normally again the car level is always normal, do you know what could be wrong?

Matt King says:

Question, 08 sport 4.4L. Front passenger suspension goes down in normal height drive. It raises but goes back down after start. However stays up in off-road height. On the screen it displays that tire low and suspension fault and reset suspension height after obstacles are removed. Sensor replacement?

You know your stuff! I have a L320 2011 Sport. Are you aware of any way to set up automatic lowering once the car is in park (like in the newer models)? I'm OK with buying an aftermarket kit if that is the best solution.

g mykolas says:

Hello, i have L320, after 15-20 sec i get yelow suspension fault light. And it says normal heigh only. What i saw in car.
First sometimes on 4×4 screen i see bilinking "raising"-"standart" one after another. I changed relay under the hood. Suspension was working fine for 2 days. No yellow ligh, nothing. I could lift it, lower down, anything. But after 2 days light came back. Strange. If there where a bad wheel heigh sensors, in "that 2days without light" they would turn the light anyway. Car stays in normal heigh, doesnt drop. So supose no air leaks. Yesterday, i took relay away, and put back again. Rest of day was without fault light, comppresor worked fine. In the morning-yellow light again. No sensors stay in stuck possitions. What is happening?

Muhammed Ali says:

First, Thank you for the info.
I have 2014 range rover sport and i want to lower the suspension permanently, any idea?

Garry Kennedy says:

Don't know if you have any insight, but when I got my 06 RR SC, it was on its bump stops. Someone had driven it like that and the front right strut, if you pull the rubber cap off under the hood, sits 1 inch higher than the left one. So much that the cap won't go all the way back on. I imagine the banging on the bump stops rammed the strut so hard, it slipped in its housing a little? So when it is sitting on the bump stops, the front right of the vehicle sits an inch lower now. Now I reset the codes, and got the air suspension working again by replacing the relay in the back. After that, I did the turn steering wheel full left and right to reset the system. But somewhere during this process, the sensors got calibrated sitting on the bump stops with the front left being 1 inch lower. My question is, do you know what I did to trigger it to calibrate? I don't have a diagnostic tool other than the typical OBDII tool. So I couldn't have triggered the calibration on purpose.

Giulio Chiapolini says:

Hello! I cannot calibrate the suspension, due to these errors: lateral accelerometer circuit, control module and voltage suply and something about the compressor. I just changed the block valve and the diagnose does not allow me to readjust the suspension. If you have more experience, please give an advice. Thank you in advance 😉

Aubrey Wood says:

Help .. my 09 RR Sport 4.4L was lowering over night in front.. I left the door open overnight to check for leaks.. it did not lower w/ door ajar… but 4×4 display shows nothing abnormal .. can the still be the sensor or ???
