Gregory Fairchild says:

Tip: When checking vent temps put the blower on one step above the lowest speed.
The more time it takes air to pass thru the evaporator the colder the air.
I have gotten 28° f in some vehicles after service.
Always check for leaks at the moisture drain under the hood at the evaporator.
Remember refrigerant falls, check under lines & under compressors.

Anyon Matt says:

Okay, I must know. Is the EPA really that far up you poor service techs ass? The new refrigerant requires a special sniffer that's compliant? Does the recovery equipment have the capability to phone home to the EPA? Or is it some kind of random audit thing? Yikes!!

If somebody in the industry didn't already know that, 5:56, (seems like common sense to me), I wouldn't want them working on my AC.

Clearanceman2 says:

It's interesting that the EPA feels all this is so important. Yet every older vehicle on the planet had leaked it's freon out at some point, usually multiple times. Most people just keep adding kits until it gets really bad then they change what they need to change and at that point any freon left gets let out anyway. I'd like to know the percentage of vehicles where the freon is recovered vs. let out to the atmosphere. But even when it's recovered that vehicle almost certainly let freon into the atmosphere at some point. But supposedly the ozone hole is fixed. It's very interesting. This is something that occurs all over the world and much of of the world probably doesn't even bother to recover the freon. At one point, this process was blamed for a hole in the ozone layer. The freon may have changed but the process of release is about the same. They've just somewhat reduced the volume of release. And changed the freon. But if the new freon is much more atmosphere friendly why is it still supposed to be recovered?
