L322 Front Strut Replacement – No Shortcuts, No Nonsense! #rangerover #airsuspension #diy #repairs

Air suspension on land rovers is often considered complicated and frightening, but in this video I show you exactly how easy it is to swap your air suspension front struts yourself with pretty standard tooling.

There are other videos kicking about on the tube, but I show you here all of the tips and tricks that others miss out (as well as all the pitfalls you might come across doing the job yourself).

You will need:
Tools:
½” or ¾” 22mm short series socket (& spanner)
½” or ¾” 18mm short series socket (& spanner)

12mm spanner
T25 Male Torx bit
⅜” 16mm deep series socket (or short series & short extension)
½” or ¾” Impact gun
⅜” ratchet
2 or 4″ ½” extension

Torque Specs.:
Bottom strut nuts: 184lbs.ft.
Anti-roll (sway) bar link: 74lbs.ft
Top strut nuts: 41lbs.ft

In this video, I’ll show you ‘how to’ efficiently work in a ‘repair shop’ during harsh ‘winter’ conditions. As someone with extensive ‘mechanic career’ experience, I’ll demonstrate dealing with challenging ‘snow’ and ice while maintaining professional standards. The video includes detailed timestamps below to help you navigate through each section.

Excellent 9 out of 10. Good choice on the BWI and for doing both sides. If you check your old strut you'll see a gasket which sits between the strut and the body. On the basis that JLR fitted them I spent the extra to replace them. As for the ABS cable clip, this is a BMW part and available on ebay.

@rippinmachines says:

did you get hit with any duty / taxes when purchasing from Island 4×4? I am thinking of doing the same and know they sometimes get in tax free depending on who they use for shipping.

@TorontoL322 says:

I replaced both of my front struts back in October or November before the Canadian winter hit… as I have to work on my driveway.

Island 4×4 wouldn’t send me a shipping quote, even after requested one multiple times. So I ordered BWI struts from LR Direct, along with new gaskets and bolts/nuts.

ABS clips are a BMW part, I got mine from eBay.

Good to see you back in 2025 and happy new year to ya. Question, once the new airbags are fitted do you need to reset something on the vehicles ECU system?

@davidtaylor3013 says:

Nice job well done fella !

@mitchellfain says:

Well done. I did same job on my previous L322 and LR3. No problem from my D5 yet.

@a100267 says:

Nice tutorial. Do you need to disconnect the battery prior to this job?
