Dumbest Land Rover Design Fault EVER – Fixed – L405 Range Rover

We bought our new to us 2015 Range Rover L405 with 4.4L TDV8 with a restricted performance issue. The Land Rover workshop estimated 2800 Euro to fix the issue. We investigated it and found a serious design flaw by land Rover which caused the issue. It was fixable for 0 Euro.

I was wondering where your investigation was going to go. Something you learn in communications and electronics is that noise in the first stage of a system is amplified and becomes worse. Remove that noise from the first stage and things perform much much better. Clearly, on cars, remove the noise(bag) and the same happens 😉

what can i say never underestimate the stupidity of design…..as Mr Scott once said "the more they overthink the plumbing the easier it is to stop up the drain" lol

it would not be the same without Verna only 13 in this video o my God love the camera girl and you Christian well worth a view thank you

I am so glad you bought a Range Rover! I had an old one many years ago and loved it but the new ones are just amazing things in spite of reliability issues. You guys are just so fantastic to watch I love the chemistry between you. Christian's old school, a well as his new school, engineering skills are so entertaining and interesting to watch. I can't wait for the day I have my proper garage, with lift, then the fun will begin (I even failed to remove 2 x 13 mm bolts on the rear brake piston support bracket on my 2004 Ford CMax the other day. Hopefully the wheel bearing will hang in there till spring). Keep it up guys!

This one of those cases where the problem is dumb and so simple and staring you right in the face that mind choses to ignore it because it can't be that simple. At your first video when you showed I did think it was strange that there loose soundproofing in the intake because I did remembered the fuss LR made when the L405 lunched about how the car breathes through the bonnet giving excellent wading depth. But again I wouldn't have thought that was the problem because it can't be that easy

Brilliant and entertaining ❤

You got there in the end – that's what matters!

Hindsight is great. 14:38 if you had graphed the MAF as well as the turbo, you may have got to the trashbag quicker.
Great engineering as usual, unbelievable tenacity and a fantastic final outcome.
Another brilliant production from LR Time. How do you manage the spanner turning, engineering, filming, editing and all the rest neeeded for a 30 minute episode EVERY WEEK?
Well done, my friends.

@kevinpage8713 says:

I guess that LR does not know of this cause (obvious really), but the techs always fix it themselves without knowing.
When they follow the fault diagnosis blindly and jump in and replace the listed parts, somewhere along the process they see the loose bag and stuff it back into place – so fixing the problem. But as they have just replaced an expensive part, they think that was the fix.
Cure by blind accident in such cases really.

Range Rovers have become to complicated, but Christian is a clever engineer, he is the fixer !

I'm selling my Toyota and buying a range Rover.. just to find the same fault…and solving it in two minutes just to impress my neighbor's…I'm a genius

@Quaker-sn5fr says:

Some times you are the highlight of my week. Excellent diagnosis Christian. Happy New year to you both. Pete UK

There are so many LR dealerships crying over lost revenue right now…….
