DIY easy-to-duplicate winch mount for Land Rover Discovery 3 / 4

DIY easy-to-duplicate winch mount for Land Rover Discovery 3 / 4

#Landrover #LandroverDiscovery #LR3

In this episode, we show how we build a winch mount bracket for Vera´s Land Rover Discovery 3. The bracket is a self made construction out of laser-cut 6 smm steel. Anyone with basic welding skills and a angle grinder can duplicate this design for about 120 US$.
Then we show hot install the winch hidden inside the bumper of the LR3 with minimum vehicle modifications.

The drawings and files are available for Patreons over our Patreon account LR Time. Alternatively, you can send Vera an email (see the about page of our chanel for the link) and request the assembly drawing and laser-cut files.

The drawings are for private use only (commercial use of my design is prohibited). Copy the design on your own risk. LR Time is not responsible for any harm to you, your souroundings or your poor Land Rover vehicle.
This is a video for enterteinment only and not a how-to instruction. Don´t come back complaing to us if you cut your Landi in half and then the pieces do not fit.

The winch we used is a
RAW MACHINE
Raw Force 1 12.0
4.4 kW 12VDC

Price in Germany including tax is 379 Euro.

Great videos. I did my electrical apprenticeship with the rover company back in 1971. 4years. At the rover factory in clay lane ( Acocks Green). we made the engine's for all of the rover cars and I ended up in Solihull after I finished my apprenticeshi. My newest car is a 2015 discovery 4 after I had a d2 that I had for 9 years, and the wife had a freelancer 2. It's great to see the actual time it takes to complete work on your diiscovery and I'm looking forward to you doing, 1) the front suspension poly brushes upgrade and 2) the rear wheel bearing replacement. But are you going to replace the cracked air strut you noted on one of your videos. Anyway thanks for putting all this on the Web. And look forward to the next videos. P.s. if you want to know how to install a dash cam and rear camera via the head lining, let me know

sometimes I wonder why Lands rovers are a special tool for moving , and just now let my wife go skiing with my disco 2 , was only 10 minutes to explain where was handbrake , pedals and mirrors , 2minutes to explain that the car is full four wheeler , and that no complicated things to do with inboard strange management things , another 1 minute to explain it is more than 2 m high and so care in parks ,and next I will explain why girls love these cars , they are simple and very smart with simplicity…that is why they are favorites girls car !! sorry that this well thought car is not made anymore , sure that Vera understand , best whishes for you and family for 2022 , you are very nice family , even the stomper is great !

Nick Spencer says:

You guys are honestly outstanding. Sadly I've had to sell my Discovery now, but I still love watching these video's. After so much energy that goes into maintaining and enhancing the vehicle, it Would be great to get a video of you using the car in anger at some point. Keep up the great work as always.

Hi Vera and Christian, First, Happy New Year to You guys, Second , one question. You explained /some other video/ why replace ''not original '' break light bulbs is nothing to do with the air suspension,. My story short; Four days ago I bought 2006 LR3 HSE. with 4.4 engine. Yesterday noticed, NO BREAK LIGHT. Quick picked up Two of this bulb a near autoshop, and changed. I'm just surprised, the Left side was no bulb at all,… was empty.! so I replaced both side . Since than , she is behaving strange… Tomorrow I'm willing to take out the Left bulb, and let see what happens. /not Today, presently here in Winnipeg Can. has -33 , Tomorrow hoping around -20..? Bit better.. / Christian, is there any … way , you wrong about it.? By the way, I'm believe You, more than I believe to the blueprint.!

Lost Cause Ranch says:

Nice work, have all the stuff sitting to get mine on the LR4. Thanks for reminding me to do it.

Dinka Man says:

u guys need to do something serious with that car, for example, morocco to Cape Town down the West Africa route.

Mark Welsh says:

Oh man that stupid f*ckin bolt took me ages! I didn't remove the radiator fan either. For anyone watching in the states you can get a premade universal winch tray from Harbor Freight or Amazon, and it will work, but surely not as well as this one! I bought the Zeak one and a Zeak winch from amazon.

Hi Christian and Vera, i hope you and your family had a nice start of the new year. Like every video that you posted we stay every sunday in front our tv enjoying and learning much more than expected about ours Discovery 3. I share my experience with winches, i don´t have it in my D3 but I have some experiences with other wehicles. The steel cable will damage your aluminium hawse fairlead. For steel cable you should to use a roller (as supplied) or change it for a synthetic rope. this rope has many advantages, stronger, lighter and will not damage your alu piece even it works sideways. Best regards from Argentina

Fattrucker says:

Christian . Your skills and knowledge are second to none. I would gladly pay you above any dealership to work on my Discovery 3 . Sadly I think my lack of funds and being in the UK may be slightly prohibitive . LOL .Excellent work sir . And thank you Vera for your commentary . How on earth would Christian find anything he's put away without your help. LOL .

Very nice job! One question did you say some time ago you were to test different oil pump brands for the TDV6??

haanjamiis says:

16:20 Ordered the clips from aliexpress. Was pretty cheap. Then liked how it looked without the plastic thingy and and didn't put it back. It's not like you really need it anyway. And sometimes it breaks when offroading (that's why the clips broke 1st place). Mine is D4 though. It looks bit different I think.

John Willett says:

Happy New Year all – question … why hinge the number plate downwards? Why not hinge upwards and have a gap so the cable end can hang down and be attached to the new tow point when driving? – or – have a couple of vlips and remove the number plate when you need the winch? The disadvantage of hinging down, as I see it, is thet you don't have any tie-down for the cable end ???

Land Rover Expeditions Namibia says:

Hi Christian. Love all the videos and thank you for all the "German precision" lectures and fixes. I was hoping you can help me now, since I got my D3 it has a rough idle at operating temperatures, but only sometimes? I have read everywhere online but dont seem to find anything. I can say that the previous owner had blanked off the EGR valves just for ease of mind in our hot arid conditions. And yesterday I got the exhaust done and now when it does rough idle, its more noticable. If you have a mail adress or whatsapp, that would help then I can send you voice notes. Please Christian! I rely on your DIY expertise now.

Cheers,
Devin
