BROKEN Lamborghini R/C Car with a Very Strange Fault??? Tea Break Fix

Hi, this little car has a very unusual fault. When you power it on it only works for 3 seconds. Every single time it will only last for 3 seconds!!! What could be causing this.
It was sent in by Stuart from infinitebargains4u over on eBay. This was faulty from new. Let’s take it apart and try and fix it.

I have a PO box here in the UK, so if you would like to send something in that MAY be featured in a repair video, then here is the address. No items will be returned, so only send it in if it is of no value to yourself.

PO Box 2597

UK

I don’t think couriers send to PO boxes, so in the UK it would need to sent via Royal Mail.

Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things. I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things, so I hope that comes across in this ‘Trying to FIX’ series. Many thanks, Vince.

Ground was floating. Whenever the capacitors charged the voltage difference between VCC and the floating ground became too small to act as ground and the receiver shut down.
The precise time was due to the predictable charge rate of the capacitors.

I fixed a cheap RC I found a few years ago. I have it on display and for the life of me I can't remember what was wrong with it. Probably had to clean up the mobo and solder some wires

I have got that rc car with a different controller

Mr Mag says:

I see at 10:48 right below there, the 2nd component (across from L1 to the right) top right corner is not soldered either, was there a substance on the board that caused the solder not to stick, hmm.

"What a perfect little fault!" I bet if it had cheeks, you'd have pinched them ☺️

No longer a Tea break fix, bit a tea break mod! Yeah! That's the ticket!

Tim Vangenechten says:

If you do not have the correct connector then a female dupont connector(like the ones used on arduino and Raspberry Pi boards) would probably do the trick. Its not perfect but it would work fine if you do not have the correct ones.

The unsoldered pad looked suspicious but at a first glance you would expect it to be unused. But when you started measuring and could not find any other pin that was connected to ground, I was pretty sure you found the problem.

Once again, great job. Its not about the value of what you repair, its about the value of what you learned and the satisfaction of creating/fixing something. So satisfying!
