I 100% agree direct injection alone is no good, that's why I like what Toyota did and implemented both, the ability to achieve the high efficiency of direct injection while still achieving the cleaning benefits of port injection.

Catch cans can be harmful in cold weather as the fluid freezes in the can causing the crankcase not to vent and blowing up the engine. There is a good reason the manufacture does not install these at the factory. A VW dealership mechanic told me this is not a problem in Germany because the fuel is so much better there.
