Can you help me please? I’m almost done assembling the new cable in my Renault Twingo 95, but I don’t know how to connect it to the clucth, I first connected the cable to the pedal and then tried to connect the other side. But the cable does not reach the clutch lever. I assume I need to pull the lever and then connect the cable, but the lever is too hard to pull.

Very nice video, thank you Gary!

Thanks for the tutorial, I’ve replaced clutch before but not a Kia. 2003 Spectra 1.8 liter had that same clutch pedal squeak, but it started to almost clunk so obvious it shook your foot. Thank God, At least I know how to drive without a clutch when I got home the bad vibration comes a goes….it’s parked.
I now know what to expect, grease under the finger nails and a sore back.

Pls advise what benefit hydralic clutch(which has master and slave cylinder) provides compare to this cable style. Is the benefit comes to adjustment only or anything esle.

According to the Mitchell flat rate book, clutch pressure plate R&R for the Rio ’01-’05 is 3.6 hours and 5.8 hours for the ’06-’07 models. That’s if you have all the tools and are trained on the model and if all goes well! Gary

what is the approximate time that will take to replace a clutch on a Kia Rio?
Thank you!

Sorry, I don’t have a parts breakdown to assist, at 12:38 we show the cable at the trans bracket. This F/W has a .020″ positive step: friction surface raised above mounting surface. We do not recommend changing the step or grinding it away. Noise diagnosis, make sure you do it with the engine off and then try with it running. Engine off, bearing is only sliding. If it squeaks with engine off, you could try a drop of oil on the top shaft at the bushing, see if it changes at all. Gary

i need to know if the bracket for the cable is suppose to have a bushing in it. i think there is suppose to be one in the u shaped part of the bracket as well as the end of the bracket. someone put a clutch in it 3k mi ago and had problems with low pedal and squeeking ever since. now it is making noise like its low on power steering fluid when you press the pedal which i am assuming that is the release bearing. is the flywheel suppose to have a positive step and did you machine it flat?

Thank you. Gary

Informative video!

jesse2006, I checked Alldata and they are calling for .035″ to .059″ between the adjusting nut “ears” and the groove in the seat. Good observation. W/O the history on the car, assuming it is a higher mileage “as built” system, one thing that can cause hard shifting or difficult gear selection is rust on the input shaft splines. The rust prevents the disc from sliding on the shaft, disc drags against F/W, input shaft still turns, hard to select. This is one possibility. Gary

jesse2006 says:

nice video, you didn’t say much about adjusting the new cable to a proper setting. my 2002 kia rio clutch cable seems to have loosened so that now i have to push really hard down to the carpet. i’m hoping that tightening the adjustment cable will help with that problem. also if i don’t push it all the way into the carpet it is hard to move from one gear to the other, perhaps some safety feature where it thinks it isn’t fully engaged?

vince perez says:

do you have the clutch cable replacement video???

vince perez says:

for an honda civic 96 coupe have the same manual clutch cable like the one in this video
