The Rhino-Rack Backbone Mounting System for the Jeep Wrangler JL is an interior and exterior structure that utilizes exterior mounting castings, connected to an internal frame that mounts to the Wrangler roll bar and body tub. The Backbone Mounting System transfers the load from your roof rack through the hardtop and to the internal frame allowing you to carry up to 219 lbs of dynamic load (748 lbs static) on your Jeep Wrangler JL’s roof! In this video, Rob will walk you through the installation steps to get the Rhino-Rack Backbone Mounting System installed on your Jeep Wrangler JL.

Can you still remove the hard top after installing this? I love the system but would still like to run my soft top when I don’t need a rack or hard top.

Claude Perrault says:

I love your videos Rob, they are simply the best. Keep up the good work!

I've been looking for a modular type rack system for my JL Sahara and I think I found it! Now if they would make them in a body color to match my roof top(Hella Yella) I'd pull the trigger immediately!
Thanks for posting this video!

I saw the install for the Gladiator, but did not realize the Backbone System was available separately. @ 6:45 and @ 10:05 torque the nuts/screw to 3-4 ft/lbs for now. Perhaps the instructions have the final torque requirements. Wonder if Rhino-Rack recommends the use of thread-lock? Really liked the split screen to clearly show selected parts of the install. Thanks for sharing.

Who makes the rims on tge Jeep you used? Do they come in different colors?
