Ian Johnson walks through the regear process on a Jeep JK using Yukon Gear Kits (Yukon Ring & Pinions paired with Yukon Master Install Kits), addressing the need to upgrade your gears when you add bigger tires to your rig.
The Yukon Gear & Axle® brand is known industry wide for maintaining the highest quality in aftermarket parts with tolerances at or exceeding OE grade. Yukon manufactures the widest selection including ring & pinions, limited slips, lockers, axles, rebuild kits, hubs, driveshafts, and more!
Damn. Was hoping to not have to pay to have this done on myJL, but i dont have many of these tools and the front axle disconnect adds another layer of complexity. Let alone switching from stock open to a limited slip.
Wow, god must love you. Everything just lines up the first time & you didn't even use a pinion depth measuring indicator. you didn't need any set up bearings with press fits removed for the alignment measurements and your bearings magically don't get damaged by impact tools. I'll have to get you to purchase lottery tickets for me some time.
did this in my driveway with almost no clue what i was doing, didn't watch a video….
and somehow i got it done. im just a shady tree mechanic amature .
No doubt you have done this a number of times, cause you are damn good at tare down & build up!!!!
I might have a bent rear axle housing on my 5th gen 4Runner . I’ve replaced one rear axle shaft and still causing my brakes to jerk aka death wobble
He was fast bur did anyone notice that he didn't install the oil slinger on the pinion shaft
Where u located at man imma have u regear my jeep, u awesome
How many hours did it actually take you to rebuild both axles since shops quote 6 hours each and you did both in 30mins?
Hello, im re gearing to 4.56 on my 2015 JK which has dana 30. Do i need a new carrier as well or i csb manage through shims ?
You don't have to heat the ring gear?
I have 35 inch tires. Everyone keeps telling me 456 gears. I don't plan ongoing over 80 miles an hour. At any point in my Jeep. Should I go up to 488?
Great support video. I think I can do this.
Hello, I'm regearing my 2007 JKU and after pulling off the rear differential cover I discovered the bearing caps are on the wrong side, and upside-down. When I bought the jeep in 2010 it had only 9900 miles on it and it was a dealership fleet vehicle. It looked brand new inside and out. The dealer never mentioned any repairs and the gear ratio matches what the build sheet indicates. It seems unlikely any work was done on it before I bought it.
Is it possible the caps were installed wrong in the factory?
When I reassemble the differential after changing the gears should I put the caps on the same way they are now or should I put them on as the marks show?
Why do you look like Guy Fieri and John Goodman had a love child?
How did you come to pinion death and thickness of shims am installing gear set in my grandson jeep as watch this video
Can you provide links to the specialty tools please?
What if you don't have a press like that? How do you press the new bearing on?
ian, where can i find the show i just watched on tv,about turning a 4 door jeep jk into a 2 door pickup?i want to know where to get the roof and rear wall?
I wish you could do mine, you look like you treat each job like its your own vehicle. Awesome work man!
Is a pinion depth guage not necessary if you get proper inch pound resistance with crush sleeve?
Thank you so much for your video it helps out so much I’ve learned a lot from both your extreme 4×4 and your utub
Thanks Guy Fieri!
I blew the center housing out on my JK D44, this will help when I find another housing.
Isn’t this guy from Ontario
What would the overall opinion be regarding the Yukon Ring and Pinion compared say to the G2 or Revolution Ring And Pinion for gearing upgrade on a Jeep JK?
"a little bit of brake clean…"
I want you to regear my 2015 please!!
