dan heinol says:

Great video!! Just when I thought I was stuck, you saved me lol thanks!

4ace07 says:

Had this happen to me when I was replacing the rear shocks on my 96 XJ.
Luckily, I had my uncle there with me who knew how to tap and drill. What
could’ve been a 20 min job turned into a 2 1/2 hour job.

John Haman says:

This worked great. Fast and Simple. AIr hammer at Harbor Freight for $10
pick. Thanks got me out of what I thought was a Jam
John

magichatter07 says:

Is this also known as the rear V Spring? When going in for new tires, I was
told that they couldn’t perform the alignment because the rear V Spring was
broken. No clue what that is.

ApophisApril132036 says:

hot glue the new bolt to an open wrench and insert it into the hole from
obove…thats what I did

xDrakensteinx says:

oh no ive had them off before a couple times when doing my lift and they
come out normal. however this last time one of the nuts stripped, so i
kinda just wanna do away with them. i just dont know how to go about
getting them out because every method i see the bolts have already broke.
im installing BPE’s and was just gonna leave the old nuts and drill em out
and put new bolts threw the top. is that possible you think?

BigSh00ter1 says:

Spot on! Twisted my bolts off and then thought now what? I will add stick
to this plan. I thought I could add 5/8 bolts, they fit straight in from
underneath, but when trying to fish them in, they don’t make the angle into
the hole do to the bolt thickness. You saved my bacon today!

Dennis Tucker says:

Great video amigo! Gotta tackle this job next weekend on my 96 XJ to get my
state inspection sticker. Thanks so much for posting!

hyperactivecalvino says:

no problem, I’m working on my jeeps leaf spring shackles, that’s much more
of a pain in the ass than the shocks, id rather do the shocks ALL DAY
compared to changing an old pair of leaf springs & shackles ever again.

My Damn Channel says:

Well honestly I would get some PB Blaster and soak them every day for a
week for some two times a day, then try and actually get the bolts to come
out normal, and If they do replace them with good grade 8 bolts and nuts.

hyperactivecalvino says:

Also I ended up doing my leafs myself and im going to change out the shocks
soon and use your videos advice. These are the tools I needed to finish the
job (if i had them all it would have taken me maximum 3 days to complete
the job) Angle Grinder with name brand cutting wheel $45 investment SawZall
with heavy duty name brand metal cutting blades (5 pack) $45 investment
igniting propane torch kit $16.00 4 mopar bolts for the shackles $30 and
that was it. Let me know if you decide to tackle it.

StellsBellz says:

So you said 1/4″ bolts with a lock washer under the head works fine? It’s
not too small of a bolt size? I’ve heard of guy tapping these holes to
5/16th or 3/8″

My Damn Channel says:

Yea I agree I almost tackled mine when I lifted it, but when I ran into
those bolts in the front of the spring pack that didnt want to even turn I
was like Fuck this!!! They dont make enough beer for this horseshit..lol so
I went add a leafs..lol

My Damn Channel says:

Thanks I appreciate it 🙂 if i ever get off my ass I will make more
Cherokee videos since I dont drive it any more. If you have anything you
would like to see me make a video on let me know 🙂

My Damn Channel says:

Hey StellsBellz FFFFFF ME!! did I say 1/4″ wtf yes your right it’s not 1/4″
and I do believe I used 3/8″ dia bolts dammit lol I will find out exactly
what I used and make sure to correct that. SORRY GUYS thanks for

My Damn Channel says:

Well good luck Rob, here are a few things to know concerning your rear leaf
springs….get prepared to get PISSED OFF!!!! hahaha The front bolt on your
leaf springs, are stupid hard to get out. Well at least mine were.

My Damn Channel says:

Catching my dumb mistake.

hyperactivecalvino says:

to get them bolts out they are by factory mopar installed with some insane
orange loctite (I know this because i purchased new mopar bolts from
dealership) and i removed mine with a standard 1/2 craftsman drive with
13/16 craftsman socket WITHOUT CHEATER PIPE / BAR. The trick is to kill off
the loctite meterial by propane torching the front and upper rear shackle
bolt for about a good 3-4 minutes then give it a go, trust me do not
attempt hitting the bolts or impacting because lots of people

Rooster Cogburn says:

Just had to do this on my TJ. I also did the air hammer trick. Wayyyy
quicker than breaking off 6 bit

Rob Lusignan says:

Great video! I am looking at replacing my leaf springs and shocks soon, and
I’ve heard it is really common to break these bolts when disassembling.
Once a week for the past month I have been *carefully* spraying them with
PB Blaster, and when I remove them I plan on hitting them with a torch, so
HOPEFULLY I don’t need to resort to your method. Because of this video,
though, I will be sure to have the correct fasteners in stock, and I will
be better prepared than before!

xDrakensteinx says:

i wanna do this to my xj only thing is my shock bolts havent broke. would
it be fine to just drill the holes out and leave the old nut up in there
you think? or should i just still try and knock it out somehow?

GroovinFunk says:

Or…spray nut with PB Blaster, let soak for 5 min, undo nut with wrench.
Avoid all this hassle.

Prepping2endure says:

SWEET DEAL!! but i will admit.. I WAS ONE OF THE DUMMIES WHO DRILLED AND
TAPPED!! LMAO! as far as the bolt spinning a wrench does fit down the frame
to hold it down??? that idea with the wire i have used before when helping
a friend put a hitch on his truck. GREAT VIDEO!! Thanks for the advice and
tips!

hyperactivecalvino says:

Best video I’ve seen on this. Good thing im having a mechanic do my leafs +
shocks for only $150 tomorrow 🙂 I’m sure he will be calling me like “darn
bolt broke damn it ragequit”

hyperactivecalvino says:

do that and it ends up breaking the weldnut in the frame causing an even
worse headache. Try that out its better to get new leafs ;D

captainwatty says:

Thank you! This got it done for me. I never used an air hammer before. It
worked out great. Love the wire trick!
