How to Fix Faded Jeep Fender Flares

This is how I fixed my uncle’s faded black plastic / vinyl fender flares on his Jeep. No, it didn’t screw up the paint. No, the gas tank did not detonate. Ye…

Don’t do this, it will only last a short time and be worst than before. It
brings the oils out but if you do not seal it the oils dry out and bam.ïŧŋ

02ls7ws6 says:

This attitude.. reminds me of myself. Keep calling out the morons though
lmao, they deserve it.

Oh my god that is awesome.

oknasob says:

Looks great but to everyone wanting to do at home, romobe the fender flares
first!

JustinsDIY says:

would this work on my explorer side view mirror plastic?

Brandon B says:

@mxkid49 not if you’re careful, and don’t heat one spot for too long, it
will be fine.

Olivier Deschamps says:

or you could just use peanut butter instead

TheBlakeDawg says:

awesome!! and you’re right! If you do it right you wont burn your paint.

flap jack says:

should be called fender fix hillbilly fail..

slant6guy says:

Folks, use Flood Pentrol from Home Depot or the like & NOT a torch. Just
wipe it in, with a lint free rag, and it’ll make the fender flares look
like new again (wash the flares 1st before applying the Pentrol). It won’t
harm the paint like a torch will and it lasts for about over a
year…reapply at that time and all is well again. No accidental melting a
hole or destroying a part of a flare “by accident”. ~Good video
presentation though.

poke4532 says:

I’ll be laughing when you fuck up the paint and create bubbles under the
clear coat.

dubjman says:

Mothers back to black don’t work worth a s%^. Tried it on several plastic
parts. It don’t work

chris000089 says:

Just use peanut butter

Brandon B says:

@kyspence Tried to burn a spider off the fender flare with a cigarette
lighter. Needless to say, I missed him and fixed a small portion of my
fender flare.

Taylor Hartless says:

LMFAO gotta love haters

Brandon B says:

@JustinsDIY Yes and ‘maybe’… I did it to my 2nd gen Mirrors, but if I
recall correctly the 1st gen plastic was different, so that I don’t know.
I’m not sure what year you have, but if you do have an ‘older’ style
plastic you could try a spot on the bottom where no one really sees it and
see what happens? haha Good luck!

viggoM35 says:

@viggoM35 oops typos “tape” and “you DON’T mess up the paint. L☚L

funfactortv says:

who the hell would hate on this, its a great idea, burning/re melting the
oxidisation or chalking to give it back its original shine, tops, in a few
years when i need to, this will be something i try, cheers

wannabewhacker says:

@BlowingPumpkins I Thought theat messed up the paint too! lol but you can
see its a reflection before and after you do it. and when you pass in front
of for a second. good deal!

Ryan Widdoes says:

will it mess the paint up?

wannacboi says:

I don’t think the plastic fenders on a Jeep Wrangler are painted, are they?
I think maybe they’re just clear coated to help protect against oxidation,
which by the way is bad in cold environments. I wonder if it’s any less
damaging out west where it doesn’t snow as much?

viggoM35 says:

Just wet sand it with a 1500-2000 grit. It will take off the old dried out
oxidized top layer. But tap it off first or remove the bumper. So that you
mess up the paint. You can also polish is rubbing compound or plastic
polish. Use a cordless drill and a buffing or polishing wheel. Same thing
works well on your plastic head light lenses that fade from the sun.

xBelBunnix says:

wow way to fuck up the paint stupid kids these days

danielthayer says:

make sure you dont do this after overfilling your gas tank a little bit…
sweet fix otherwise, i’ll have to try it. I just painted the front two, so
maybe i’ll try this on the rear two and see which looks better

art88 says:

I used olive oil on mine, came out good as new.

Grabowski420 says:

Nice one dude, very nice!

Sykora171 says:

Tried this out and my fender flares look AMAZING! You might think the
camera hides a mess, but i assure you it doesnt! Thanks for this!

rawlife4me says:

can you tell me what kind of Flood Pentrol you used? Thank you

NiftyTan says:

i did this a while back it work for about 3 months but the best thing to do
is take the fenders off and just paint them

ThatsFresh26 says:

wow i never thought of that. If it doesent ruin anything thats a really
good idea

scoobert8306 says:

how long does this last? anyone know?

Watupal says:

@BlowingPumpkins how does your jeep’s fenders look today? about 2 months
later, still black and not blotchy? please reply! thanks!

Brandon B says:

@killersaints4 yeah but masking tape just takes too much effort… hahah

MrAiros72 says:

I like what you did but did you notice you had a torch next to the filler
hole for the fuel tank. I think that corner should be removed for safety.
Always someone running around with a leaking fuel cap.

flatline says:

i like playing with a torch by my gas tank ,,/

Cameron hendon says:

heres an idea so it doesnt mess up your paint..take off the fenders then
heat it

Brandon B says:

@alexraaen You talking about the top of the fender? Look at any YJ
Wrangler, that’s rippling from from where the factory rolls the fender
wells, it’s on every YJ. ….and it was there at the beginning of the video
before I even heated that area. If you’re talking about the grey area in
the paint behind the fender, that’s the reflection of the fender in the
paint… The Jeep’s gone now though, paint was in such good condition
infact the dealer gave $13,500 for it on a trade in for a new one.

Connor Aylward says:

i would be scared shitless to try that around the fuel filler cap xD i dont
understand how that works at all but it sure is cool as hell

Red6Air6oft says:

ok first u mite want to take the fenders off so u dont fuck up the paint
other wise great idea.

Raymond Bralynski says:

I’ve tried a dozen or so things for my 98 TJ but finally found something
that actually worked. I bought about 8 cans of Plasti-Dip. Spray it on
heavy so it looks very wet, then let it dry. The complete opposite of how
you would “feather” on spray paint. You have to remove them 1st which is
1/2 the battle, but so worth it.

ALLRealtySolution says:

You can use a heat gun to. (instead it’s safer than open flame) 🙂

Brandon B says:

They’re called pancakes you retard.

JJ corrales says:

just plasti diip it problem solved

Justin Owens says:

smart… right next to the gas tank… lol

John Mahaney says:

@chris000089 add crackers to that and you’ll be set.

Alex Raaen says:

jeeze look at what you did to your paint

MrVerboort says:

or you know, just use mother’s back to black for plastic trim?

tigolbity200 says:

you can clearly see the paint above the fender was like that before he put
the heat on it.. now im going to go do this to my jeep lol
