If it isn’t a dirty throttle plate what could be other causes? I know on
Renix-Era Cherokees the lower intake manifold bolts like to work themselves
loose for one reason or another, but what are other common causes, at least
from your experience?
Would this also cause a situation where the engine will idle at 1200ish
RPM, I turn the motor off and it will idel at around 3000 RPM. If I turn
it off and restarted a few more times it will go back to a normal idle?
Thinking it is a TPS which I will test when it warms up. -2 degrees is too
cold for this person to work on cars.

My Cherokee has bad oxygen sensors. Can that be the cause? Sorry I’m new to
cars.

Just did this to my 97 TJ, I took the throttle body [TB] off of the intake.
4 bolts, really easy, 10mm socket. All you have to take off the TB is three
wire connections, throttle cable which just snaps off the little round pin,
and unhook the thin wire spring from the black metal part. Unbolt it and
then take the AIC off of the TB with torks 20 driver. Once off, clean it AIC
and TB with TB cleaner and small brush, let dry. Install the IAC on to TB,
reinstall TB, reconnect wires, reconnect throttle cable and spring. Start
jeep. It will run rough for 30 sec. And clear up. Good to go.
I have NO vacuum leaks on 97 TJ. I took TB off and cleaned it with tooth
brush, rag and throttle body cleaner. Cleaned IAC same way. Still ides at
1300 RPM. so no change at all. Now what should I look for?
My yota idled way high (22re) at almost 1700. Turns out the prior owner
took it to a shop that nearly removed the idle screw. Tightened it back
down and cleaned the butterfly valve, and she idles at 750 all day
My 96xj idles from 600 to 1200 almost turning off only when i put it in
drive but when in park and neutral it idles normal. Bought a new alternator
and throttle sensor and still no fix. Any ideas??
My 88 does this to? I cleaned it really good and still does. Also has high
idle in park? Have in suggestions Matt?

Mine does it after I drive a little bit and I stop at a light the idle is
high
no, with the valve stuck open it would be like pressing the gas pedal.
no prob, thanks for watching!
LOVE your vids! I’m just watching them straight through. I’m curious on
this video. What is that little, tiny air filtery looking thing to left in
the video? It has a bright blue round cap on it.
Alright, got a question and I’ll try and keep it short: I’ve got a 4.0 I6
Renix. No vacuum leaks, throttle body is clean, IAC is clean, TPS is
adjusted correctly, MAP sensor replaced and working. I can start my engine,
and it idles at about 800, no problem. The engine warms up, rev it to about
3000, let the throttle go and it doesn’t idle any lower than 2000. I’ve
been told I should replace my TPS even if it’s adjusted correctly, just
because they can wear out. Any insight on this? Thank you sir
Thanks for all the tips Matt. I have a Aussie locked f&r 87XJ 3″lift on31’s
w/lots of armor.I need all the help I can get.lol.
Hi i have a 92 xj and i have like a pop at idle until about 1500 rpms, Ive
replaced my tps, iacv, plugs, cap and rotor, and ive cleaned my throttle
body.do you think it would be the map sensor?
lightning can be mysterious! I would assume its a relay for the horn.
no prob, thanks for watching
Ya I have a cantankerous 84 wagoneer that won`t give me gas on start but if
I prime it it will go all day starting ok any ideas just wondering .
cool thanks
My 88 Cherokee 4.0 idels at 1500 after I drive a lil if I shut it off for a
min it returns to normal until I drive cleand my butterfly like you’ve
shown but no better what sensor should I check first?
sorry, I’m as stumped as you are??
ya it`s just a 2.8 out of a S15 I`m a ford man first jeep ever owned wife
uses it -Just prime thru wingnut fire up after that goes all day , Just the
initial start .
my Toyota does idle slightly higher when it’s cold out, until you put it in
drive. but in this video i’m talking about really high idle… like if you
put it in drive it will go down the road at 40mph+ without touching the gas
high idle.
Thanks man for the vids. I have this problem too. I’ll try this first but
have another issue. Has a problem accelerating also. It boggs down and back
fires. Plugs are not fouled. How do I trouble shoot?
Love your videos.
My xj either got hit by lightning or the lightning got quite close to
hittin it causing my horn to blow nonstop until I disconnected the
battery.then after work that day my jeep revved sooo high in park and
neutral.scared the crap out of me.but it stopped revvin high after 2 or 3
days.but my horn no longer works
Hey matt. I went through a deeper puddle than I thought. Now it doesn’t run
right. When I start cold high idle above 1,000. After a couple minutes of
driving it feels sluggish. The engine is louder like I can hear the belts
rubbing or something. And when idling warm it goes to 700 for a couple of
seconds then I hear a click then 900rpm after a couple of seconds a click
back to 700… If any of that makes sense.
when at idle after the motor is started and warms up my 92 cherokee idles
at about 1000-1250 rpm the carb is clean what do i look at next
Awesome video, quick and to the point. Ill try this tomorrow. Thanks again.
i usually get the carb/tb cleaner so hopefully that isnt as potent.
wtf u font use that type of cleaner around plastics brah
isnt suppose to be on high idle until it warms up?
the idle isnt smooth like my friends, the pops sounds like a missfire but
ive gone through the entire ignition system and all is new, could it also be
my flowmaster?
I have a focus SVT with the same problem. Let me know if you find the
solution! I think mine is a leak though, but my mechanic can’t find it.
Have had it in the shop for 2 months now and still nothing. Picking it up
tomorrow and gonna try to trouble shoot it myself..
igot tha same problem on my truck 1988 chevy blazer 4.3 liter not sure whut
to do. sum people tell me its tha timing belt but im not sure whut it is at
all.
thanks
