Also another problem with death wobble, of you find that your bushings on your track bar are fine. Check the bolt hole, they tend to get wobbled out until there oval shaped, solution for thus is to Nessie over 3/8″ and drill a new hole for the bolt.

JerryRigEverything says:

The car can be sitting on the ground. It is MUCH easier to press the new bushings into the track bar if it is removed entirely from the vehicle. The bushings are usually pretty hard to get out unless you have some kind of press.

fervoxvoxfer says:

Hi, me again…Two questions…I’m planning to replace the bushing of the track bar, passenger side. Do I have to lift the car or can be on the ground?, Do I have to remove the whole track bar to do it or just loose the side that I want?, it is easy to remove and install the bushing or is under a lot of pressure?, thanks!

fervoxvoxfer says:

Thank you for your reply..yes, it moves side to side. Very useful video..!

JerryRigEverything says:

The bolt needs to hold the bar securely, as well as not move side to side in the bushing. That could very well be your problem.

fervoxvoxfer says:

Hi jerryrigeverything!, at 1.39 of the video you show a bolt that hold the track bar, well my bolt (jeep cherokee 96) has a play, it’s not really tie. When I reach the 55 mile an hour the car begins shaking. Do you think that could be the problem?, that bolt have to be very tie, right?, thanks in advance!!

JerryRigEverything says:

Nice man, Im glad you got it figured out.

eastcoastvb says:

Thank god Im not the onyl one this is happening too. Great vid thanks so much.

JerryRigEverything says:

Glad I could help! Thanks for subscribing!

cuzsis says:

I got quoted about $200 by my local Les Schwab… I’m going back and forth on whether I want to fix it myself or just throw money at the problem and make it go away (I’m really busy right now). Your vid helps a ton figuring out exactly what I’m in for if I fix it myself. Thanks!

cjhawk67 says:

You know if your replacing the bar just throw a socket over the nut and force it off over the cotterpin.

JerryRigEverything says:

You can try replacing just the bushings if you’d like, but it is a few hours extra of work.

FixFalcon says:

Why are those track bars so damned expensive? It’s just an iron rod with a bushing on one end and a tie-rod on the other…Probably costs 5 bucks to manufacture.

cooker3000 says:

ive been have same problem and its not the first time. could a really tight suspension cause this to keep happing from wheeling.

Ryan Woodruff says:

u a ton for posting this man. my front right has a bad death wobble on my tj. conveniently it just started 2 weeks after i bought it from a drealership. I had someone twist the wheel and noticed the bushing on the fram mount end is completely gone. like non existent

supermoistdeluxe says:

Great vid. I just experienced this today in my wifes stock xj. Luckily I knew what it was and knew where to research it.

JerryRigEverything says:

Ive been around Jeeps and the Jeeping community quite a bit. A lot of guys claimed that replacing the track bar fixed the issue. So what you say might be true, but at the same time, this has fixed the issue for a lot of guys as well.

roaddiablo says:

I have never heard of the trac bar being a culprit in death wobble. always heard ball joints/king pins radius arm bushings tie rod ends wheel bearings. trac bar just keeps axle from leaving center of vehicle from left too right, death wobble is the wheel hoping forward too rear, thus steering it left and right as tire speeds are different. But bad trac bar would be more or less sloppy steering, wandering bump steer, id think.

3:38 thats what she said

Joe Blo says:

It`s a pickle fork.

JerryRigEverything says:

Nice man! Im glad you got it all figured out.

johnny alonso says:

got under the jeep. checked all bolts to make sure none were loose. the track bar bolt (passenger side) although not incredibly loose, i could still tighten it w my ratchet. so i tightened that up. then put the jeep on a couple stands and made sure the tires weren’t loose able to shake left/right up/down. i had my tires recently rebalanced and just decided to switch the tires from driver to passenger and vice versa while she was raised. so far so good – no wobble. thanks so much yur videos rule!

johnny alonso says:

thanks again man for getting back. this weekend im going to rifle thru everything and check out all your vids (again) 🙂 and try to figure out what seems to be the problem. i did get the front tires rebalanced and it def helped a bit so i guess their may be a couple issues at hand – but the death wobble comes back if i run around 60 so im just laying off the pedal once i feel the first tremor. ill update once its solved. thanks man!

JerryRigEverything says:

You can grab it and rotate it a bit with your hand. It doesn’t need to be solid. It is only held on by 2 ball joints on either side so that’s why it will rotate. Now if it shifts left and right instead of just rotating a bit you might have a problem. Its hard to say without being there. I posted another picture in the video description of all the steering components in a Jeep.

johnny alonso says:

thanks for hitting me back. question: as u said – i went under the jeep just to look around – and i was wondering if the drag link should be rigid tight or should i be able to kinda move it? thanks again for any info bro

JerryRigEverything says:

Yes. The 07’s also have a track bar. Remember though that the Death Wobble could be caused by any number of steering linkage connections. The best thing to do is get under your rig and have someone turn the steering wheel left and right all the way and watch to see what connection is loose. (Track Bar, steering stabilizer or anything else) The track bar is usually the main culprit, but its always best to check first before you start swapping things out.

johnny alonso says:

great vid. thanks man. will this work for my 2007 jk jeep wrangler?

Justice Layton says:

I have the same problem with my 95 jeep grand Cherokee. I replaced the track bar and now my steering wheel is turned when wheels are straight…..didn’t stop death wobble either…I rotated tires, and it helped tremendously. Maybe a slightly bent wheel?

safenders says:

Thanks for the response. Your videos are awesome. I’m going to check the other video right now. Have a great day.

JerryRigEverything says:

There are several things that could be wrong. It could be a combination of things. Mine ended up being a combination of the track bar, and the steering stabilizer. (I made another video of how to fix the steering stabilizer), you can watch that if you want as well. Good luck! I hope you get it fixed.

safenders says:

Good video. I was curios after driving this for a while was the issue permanently resolved??If so I will replace mine tomorrow. I had major death wobble. I had an alignment witch reduced my death wobble but it can still occur around 50 miles an hour or after hitting a bump.

davi200 says:

It is called a “pickle fork”.

JerryRigEverything says:

On the video there is another link for a different video of mine where i replace the Steering Stabilizer. This is another possible fix to your problem. I dont think the part is that expensive either, i do remember putting a link to amazon in the description though. If that doesnt work…. Im not sure what to say. Those are usually the 2 main problems w/ death wobble. (check your tire alignment and wear as well)

labuyo001 says:

Thanks for the video Bro. My 1996 grand Cherokee start to wobble yesterday while driving in Chicago ( got 142,000 miles on it) now we’ll be buying from Amazon I will keep you updated once this are done. Thanks for the tip.

JerryRigEverything says:

Its actually not too bad. You can see in the video at 1:47 that it has a little metal lip on it that keeps the nut from spinning freely once it is threaded. So once you get the bolt in the nut, all you have to do is tighten it down.

dunebasher1971 says:

Good video man, thanks, I may need to do this soon. One thing, as far as getting the axle-end bolt back in, do you hold that little metal bracket thing with one hand and tighten the bolt with the other? I’ve read stories that say that it’s difficult to get that bolt back in.

JerryRigEverything says:

lol, yup. When you usually only have time to work on vehicles when its dark outside… The more lights the better.

chrisrocks02 says:

I see you shop at harbor freight I have the same light lol

SOUTHERNANDPROUD1861 says:

Had the track bar fixed on my 97 Orvis grand cherokee today only has 84.733 miles.

JerryRigEverything says:

For sure. It actually doesnt take long at all. The hardest part is if your bolts are stuck on. I would buy a bottle of ‘PB Blaster’ Its like 5 bucks and really helps get lose bolts out. WD-40 works on some things, but the PB Blaster works better. Heck, spray all the bolts you will be removing the night before as well. Itll help if that stuff soaks on the bolts for a while. Then you shouldn’t have a problem and can finish in one day.
