Jaguar XK8 – Headlining Replacement

Jaguar XK8 – Headlining Replacement

I finally got round to replacing the headling in my Jaguar XK8. The process is straightforward but a bit fiddly, the more trim you remove the easier it is so I probably would get the passenger seat out if I were to do it in the future. I can recommend ‘Headliner World’ based in Kent, UK nice product and included the A pillar trim material as well so that will be next on the list! When ordering be sure to order the right colour……..doh!

I used pin needles with smal heads. Fast, simple, reversibe and on a budget.

Thanks for sharing this video. Itโ€™s inspired me to tackle mine. Keep up the good work

Thanks for a really valuable video! I was not looking forward to taking mine out, then scrubbing off the manky old foam with a wire brush and then gluing some new material back on. Thanks! Now is my car beige or grey…

Old Hippy says:

It looks very good, bit fiddly is an understatement I think!

There are a couple of other videos around on this topic for Jags but this appears to be the 1st XK8 so itโ€™s a valuable addition, thanks Mark. I found it useful to detach the top seat belt mountings and unbolt and remove the rear interior trim each side (fixings under the rubber insert in the grab handles) as then there is easy access to the 2 metal tabs above the rear side windows which secure the headliner panel. The prevents any risk of the sharp tabs damaging your new headliner.

I managed to crease the grp in the rear close to the rear courtesy light so it was bent down by half an inch – annoyingly visible in the mirror. After trying Velcro and other things I eventually used a big squirt of No More Nails and propped the liner up for 24 hours with a length of wood (protect both the seat and the liner to avoid damage) which has sorted it.

Car Crush UK says:

A tip for anyone removing the overhead from courtesy light cluster. I could not remove it using your method because my clips were so strong. I found that using a plastic trim tool on the rear edge to lower it enough to get your fingers in got the whole thing moving. Then proceeding with your and John's method worked a treat.

Car Crush UK says:

Great video. I have a convertible so do not need to replace the headliner but I do need to do the pillars.

Frederick Hauser says:

Thankyou for the video,I have been waiting for that, going to do my headlining in the winter

DefJenJag says:

Amazingly just got a grey headlining from Headliner World delivered today to fit this weekend and was just searching youtube for tips. Excellent timing!

Bruce Boucher says:

No "Headliner World" were great and the advice was great, as I told him my issues with the fitter so he gave me advice and did not try to sell me his product. what I meant to say was I purchased a liner from a 3 rd party direct, hadn't got the nerve to do it myself so got a company over to fit it for me, who bodged it, hope that clears any misunderstanding

O&DR Jaguar XK8 says:

Good tip about the colour. Same with the various colours of cream seat. Have recovered my headliner but not 100% happy with it. The new replacement you've used looks much better, another job for the winter maybe. keep the videos coming.

Bruce Boucher says:

He actually supplies the company that bodged mine they only came over to fit, I supplied the new headliner from elsewhere. They blamed the quality as the reason for the mess they left, anyway history now now, to old to live in the past

Bruce Boucher says:

Had mine done at home by 3rd party, right bodge, got advice headliner world, missing Velcro strip behind rear courtesy light, anyway sorted by me now.

Geoff Minors says:

Nice job I am about to do mine as well. Going to see if I can find a headliner replacement in Canada.

Steve Stone says:

Great video. I have exactly the same problem with my XK8. Keep it up fella. Headliner world, never heard about them before even though they're not that far from me so thanks for that! Just shows how these videos are so worth watching.

Terry Collins says:

I can recommend Headliner World too, although we didnt buy a kit, they offer a fitting service if like us you dont fancy the job.

Kuddlesworth NA says:

I wander if you could cut a little hole in the liner and put a spray on adhesive spray through the hole to re-glue the original headliner?

Capt Nagrom says:

Your timing on this is perfect … I have the same sudden onset issue ..Thanks

Matt Adams says:

Cracking video buddy. Thanks for taking the time and effort to make and share. It's always good to have useful resources to refer to on when maintaining these great vehicles. Great job by the way!

First of all, great video ๐Ÿ™‚

I did the same to my XKR about a month ago – and additionally I would like to share some tips:

1: It is easy to remove the A-Pillar coverings and helps a lot, they are only clipped in place. When unclipping make sure you don't rip the cable to the passenger airbag-sensor.
2: It makes it a lot easier if you remove the seats, but if you do so unplug the battery and make sure to leave it alone for at least an hour. There are airbags in the seat, and you really want to get them discharged before unplugging the seat module.
3: Unscrew the seats before unplugging the battery, you will need to move them back and forwards to unscrew the 4 screws holding the rail in place.

I had someone redo the headliner I removed from the car, since in Germany it is a fair bit cheaper than ordering the new one. If you'd want to follow that route make sure not do break it while getting it out, since it will lose its stability very easy ๐Ÿ™‚

That's all I can add, but I hope it might help some people out.

Greetings
JR
