Have a great day! On my XJ40, I installed a connector in the armrest storage box connected to the + and – of the radio, so that I can charge my battery easily during the winter without having to shove of 1 meter of snow every time. Then, in a plastic box, I put 2 bolts, with wires going to the connector so that I can clip the chargers + and – on the bolts and charge the car, from the inside.

There's at least one or two companies that not only restore, but modify, oem head units. Even putting in discreet aux plugs.

You could probably send the head unit out to get the cassette deck working again and still have a (second) way to plug your phone in.
