2002 BME E46. Still throwing these codes after doing maintenance on almost
everything possible. Vacuum leaks were the first thing checked.

R Conrad says:

I have 171 & 174 on my 2004 E46 BMW 330ci. I noticed it the other day after
I filled up with gas. Thought maybe it was due to me leaving the car
running while pumping gas, or not getting cap back on tight enough.

I will try and clean the MAF when I get home today to see if that changes
anything, but if you have any other tips I can look for don’t hesitate to
reply.

Thanks

Randall Schoverling says:

Did everything to clear these codes (02 sensors, MAF, gaskets, disa valve,
vanos seal, plugs/coils, vacuum test) and I still get these codes. Going to
change fuel filter tomorrow.

Opel vectra c p0171 hata kodu veriyordu.Tüm sensörleri , maf sensörünü ve
vakum kacaklarını kontrol ettim düzelmedi. En son benzin enjektörlerini
söküp temizledik sorun çözüldu. Araba şimdi saat gibi tıkır tıkır
calışıyor.

Yukon denali 2007 6.2liter both codes drop in rpm around 2500-3000 rpms
only when driving. Not at idle. Also I cant hear the fuel pump come on when
going to off to on position. Any thoughts

Anil Chattergoon says:

Hey, i have a p0171 code on an HR15 engine on a Nissan Tiida. i changed the
o2sensor before and after the cat, cleaned the maf sensor and reset and
after an hour of driving the check engine light comes back up……..same
code appears again…

Refugio Astorga says:

Really good video. These are all common problems with the mixture of air
combustion. The perfect mixture should be 14.7 air by one gasoline.

Ride Rite Mobile says:

I have a 2003 Lexus ES300 with the following codes: p0300, p0171, p0305,
and p2195. These codes came on after bad gas was put in my car. I replaced
the A/F ratio sensor. I need to know if I need to change all plugs and
injectors to handle this issue.

Theron shields says:

ok so I just changed the spark plugs and wires and throttle positioning
sensor and about 2 months prior to this I changed the fuel filter on my 04
mountaineer, now when im driving down the interstate at around 75 or 80 mph
it bucks really hard and loses speed. could this be caused by a bad fuel
filter????

lovepeacenotwar1982 says:

i have a P0174 … just replaced the 02 senors and then we cleaned the mass
air flow sensor, light went off for 3 days but now is back on and is
throwing out that code. what can i check? where should i start bc we
already checked for vaccum leaks but have not found any…

Rex Morgan says:

So I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD 6.0liter V8. I am getting P0174
and P0171. Things I have replaced- Mass Air Flow Sensor, all 4 O2 sensors,
air filter, also unrelated but the knock sensors. I cannot seem to nail
down what the issue is. When I replaced the knock sensors (yesterday) I
checked the injectors and they didn’t look bad. Now I just also got a P0446
code. Did not have that before doing the work yesterday. Any ideas. My next
step I guess is probably the fuel filter. But after that I am at a loss.

that is it,,,, this is on a 98 lincoln continental , i found broken exhaust
hangers causing for a wobblly exhaust, is it possible to have created a
exhast leak and this is givng o2 sensors a bad reading, i sprayd ether
around intake manifold and did not get any response,,,, any comments will
hlep thanks

I have a 2002 GMC Yukon. I have both codes p0174 and p0171. I changed the
MAF. Still same issue. How to find out if the o2 sensors I need to change
is down or upstream? Thanks

David Ferris says:

Cheers mate. Im getting lean in bank 1 this really helps me with where to
start looking

George Duren says:

Very good and down to the basic, Very good explaining the codes and how
they work, I thank it’s really going to help me on a truck I am working on
.I’m not afraid to try to repair it now Thanks

Hi I have a 2001 Nissan micra I have p0171 come up. I recently have fitted
a new MAF senior as my car was using to much fuel and now the code is
coming up, can really find any split pipe and ideas???

Eileen Toma says:

I have an acura 2004 with about 56,000 miles on it. It says my o2 sensor is
running lean bank one sensor one. I had subs and amps put in my xar, and
they ran the wires thru the engine. My question is… could they have
messed up something? Also, how often is it just a dirty sensor vs.
Something serious? Please help. I dont want to be swindled.

nn ob says:

hi, thank you for the very informative video!

i’m not a mechanic, just a 2008 VW Eos 2.0T 6 speed manual 4 cylinder end
user who’s car is throwing the DTC generic code P0171 “bank 1 system too
lean”. i took it to two recommended shops shere i was told they had
sophisticated diagnostics and tools. either they did not or wanted nothing
to do with a VW. which i’ve heard before. i need to get my car to pass
inspection and emissions in the state of PA (pittsburgh).

the car runs fine otherwise. i don’t notice any missing, sluggish
acceleration, high idles or anything like that, although one very freezing
night it would crank once (i had dash lights) but then do nothing–it never
happened again though) other than what i swear sounds like airflow right at
the beginning of second gear. like if one were to open your mouth and
breathe out through the throat (don’t laugh, i’m serious).

something perhaps important to note is that the car sat for nearly 3 years
while i was living in nyc. and i hadn’t drained the fuel or use any
stabilizer (now i know). so i know i’m going to need a regular tuneup as
well.

also, if it matters, moons ago i had a 2004 VW jetta 4 cylinder where the
check engine light went on after XX,XXX miles and ended up “needing” o2
sensor(s) but i don’t know what codes went off or what else may have been
fixed. i realize it could have been a multitude of things, but little
italian guy armondo (RIP) in philly fixed it. quite a bit of parts’ $$
later.

anyway, any suggestions on the best way to identify a reputable shop, other
than a VW STEALERship (no offense anyone) who will fix everything under the
sun and rip me off. my concern is not as much hourly labor as is the
quality of the troubleshooting and fixing things that don’t need fixing.
what exactly do i need to know the shop has/does to properly diagnose and
fix this. i’m a girl, i need to sound educated or of course there is going
to be that wool-eye female duping unfortunately.

any advice is much appreciated :-)

Terry King says:

I have a P0174 code on my 2001 Nissan Sentra it says Fuel system lean bank
2 but from what you said on your video my car shouldn’t show a lean bank 2
error because it is a V4 engine. I’m not sure what to check on my car. We
bought a can of CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor cleaner and used that to clean the
MAF sensor. It did help a little but the car is still not running right.
We also bought a can of CRC Throttle cleaner and used it on the throttle.
The problem that is still happening is when I put my foot on the
accelerator the car won’t accelerate but the RPM gauge goes up, I can’t get
the car to go past 30 MPH.

Dan Zuefeldt says:

171 & 174 codes. I have tried almost everything. Smoke test found no leaks
of vacuum, no leaks in fuel evap and no leaks in the Engine itself. Ford
3.0 DOHC in 1998 Taurus. I have removed Intake Plenum and pressure cleaned
all Injectors, replaced spar plugs, replaced intake gaskets and throttle
body gaskets. fuel pressure at Rail, Key on Engine off =37 lbs, pressure
Engine on = 29 lbs. Fuel pressure at Fuel Filter is 85 lbs. Replaced Fuel
Regulator and no change. Before all of this I did spray Engine Starter
Fluid around engine and got no change in RPMs. Cleaned MAF twice. Fuel
Trims repot as follows, STFT = about 3% both banks, LTFT = 20+ % both
banks. O2 upstream seem fine but down stream O2’s reporting lean ( go
imagine). I ran engine at 2500 doe the road and then measured O2 temps
showing 100 degree differential between front and read, so I assume they
are doing their job. I still need to pinch off return fuel line to check
pressure at the rail to make sure regulator is not faulty ( even though
new). Downstream O2s may be an issue but I am not sure.

Mario Fontalvo says:

Hi god night. I own an 07 Fusion 3.0 V6 yesterday i replaced the intake
filter for a new one. I have had the k&n typhoon system for 3 years now so
far so good.

After replacing it i disconnected the negative terminal for 20mins in order
to re learn trim fuel levels as i considered it was neccesary the old
filter was horrible even if i clenaed it regulary.

Start up really rough idle engine jumping all around car shaking all the
way. So what i did: Electronic cleaner for MAF, MAP, cleaned connector male
and female for EGR, MAP, MAF, Throttle Body and 3 front coils.

Checked for vacuum leaks at typhoon duct, PCV vent hose, intake manifold.
Checked torque for 7 bolts for the manifold.

Everything ok checked codes got both p0171-74 then fuel pressure 60psi left
2 hour the pressure indicator did not move a bit. Went back to old air
filter reset ecm no help same issue.

Im lost right now going crazy only thing left is dirty fuel injectors but
as you said that would be for one bank not the two of them.

Any help? Thanks in advance!!!

2008 audi A4 2.0T FSI – P0171. Appeared pretty much the day the winter hit
jere in Calgary -17 degrees. A little suspicious. However deleted the code
and it camback the same day so im guessing its legit. I don’t seem to be
having any symptoms though. Car seems to run fine. Can i clean the sensors
my self and if so where are they ? I want to do this my self as we all know
European cars here in America = $$$ for any type of work. Thanks for the
great vid and would appreciate any response if possible.. Peace

Thank you for your video and the information, I have a 2002 BMW 325i. I
have been dealing with these codes for about a year now and just yesterday
I changed the pre cat O2 sensors and the P0171 code went away. I have not
changed the other two sensors yet but I wanted to know which of the above
mentioned symptoms are related to Bank one Vs Bank two lean codes. Thanks
once again
